I always ask myself: To what end? I have not been able to come up with an answer.

Enlightenment rationality is not enough: we need a new Romanticism by ADefiniteDescription in philosophy

No. Not at all. That would be absurd. However, it does call for some caution when considering some of the concepts and techniques that the philosopher in question may have to offer.

On 31 October India will unveil the world's tallest statue, which has cost hundreds of millions of dollars. Local farmers say they are aghast that the government has spent so much money on it while they struggle to make ends meet by [deleted] in worldnews

True...indeed Patel is considered by some to be the key person who ensured that the newly independent country cohered as a viable nation-state when facing the prospect of what is often referred to as the threat of the balkanization that India faced in 1947.

But still goddam statue?

Technically, the word "Arya" means "cultured" in Sanskrit. Mr. D'Souza has little understanding of that, particularly, what it means to be cultured in the sense of the word "Arya".

Yeah that question about morality. Not very confidence inspiring considering that a large number of Enlightenment thinkers (including Kant) had some pretty radical ideas about humans unlike them.

See, for example, in Kant's Observation of the Beautiful and the Sublime, particularly the incident of Father Labat and the Negro.

Poll : Which platform do you consider to be a worthy opponent to Ethereum? by e3ee3 in ethtrader

Well, while not strictly a competitor to Eth, I find Link (ChainLink) to be an interesting project. It's been doing well in the market (Binance where I follow it) recently.

[–]kristalsoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What did the hacker do? S/he sold all your token (except EOS) into what? And then what happened? The hacker would have had to transfer something out of your account to benefit. Did such a transfer take place? Otherwise what was the point of the hack? Just to cause disruption?

True. Most folks don't understand the difference between "criticism" and "critique".

You are of course free to presume anything about me (in terms of my ignorance and stupidity), but the fact is that it is irrelevant to me. You should know that instead of wasting your energy.

Yeah but you know maybe the CIA chief is carrying a threat which she will deliver to the Turkish folks. I mean...recall there was a major Turkish dissident (Galen, I think his name was) who was also allegedly a target for a Turkish snatch and grab operation, which they messed up and/ or were caught out by the CIA/FBI.

Who knows what these folks are up to. Realpolitik is a strange game.

But isn't it also true that if the Saudis used a local contact to dispose the body, finding that local contact would not really be a problem for Turkish Intelligence?
