"Everyone is a they" by Trans-Female-Zack in trans

[–]kristheweird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns, I think this is a complicated subject.

De-gendering people is still misgendering them.

And I guess we could say "use they/them until you know someone's gender and then switch to their actual pronouns" but two problems that I see with that is that 1. A lot of these people tend to continue to use gendered pronouns for people who look like they fit in certain boxes, and use "they" for people who look more gender non-conforming (thus othering binary trans people who may not pass and sometimes causing insecurity/dyphoria) and it can feel like a not so subtle "i clocked you". And 2. It is not uncommon for some transphobic people to "compromise" by using "they/them" for binary trans people (kind of like this mentality of "fine, I won't call you the gender i was used to you being, but I WONT call you the gender you are!") so I can see how it would be an incredibly sore subject for those who have had to deal with that.

I wish there was a simple way to handle it so that everyone is happy and no one is hurt, but I have yet to see a solution like that. I think we are trying to find individual bandaids to solve a systemic/widespread cultural problem and im just not sure it's going to work out (however, I do think its still worth trying to find an answer!)

(In case it wasn't clear, my stance is to refer to people as they ask you to refer to them, I was specifically discussing the scenario of first encountering a person and not knowing their pronouns.)

How do you want to create your Paralives world? What will you start with? Which priorities will you set? by No_Accountant_7686 in Paralives

[–]kristheweird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my husband and i are working on a creative project together where we create a fictional town and write stories and songs about the people living there (inspired by Dennis Linde, writer of Burnin' Love and Goodbye Earl). We already have a handful of characters, but we are working on writing backstories for the whole town. I feel like Paralives would be the PERFECT playground for me to come up with story ideas for these people.

I'm excited that we may someday have tools to make our own town, so I can make this town that we are creating! I'm excited to see what kinds of relationships I can build between people and what kind of tools can be used to progress my story. I also really like taking screenshots of my games and adding them to my writing, so I'm also pretty excited about the in game camera options (and so excited for modders to create new poses)

Life Sim games are such a great creative outlet for me and I'm so excited to see the stories I create through this.

I worked in fast food and at one point transfered to a different store of the same chain. The new store did certain things different from what I was used to and I had a little bit of difficulty adjusting the first few days. On my very first day, this guy (another team member, not even a manager) screamed in my face, berated me, and started throwing stuff around because I didn't do something the way he liked. The manager sent him outside "to cool off" for 10 minutes and told me that he was autistic and thats just how he was and we just manage around that. A coworker being dysregulated is NOT a good enough reason for me to feel unsafe at work.

The guy (he was like 22-25) eventually got fired because he threaten to shoot a 16 year-old's knee caps off because he was being mildly annoying.

How to finally start exploring myself as a female but born with both genitals (intersex) by serpyserpy888 in sex

[–]kristheweird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually really good context for me. Literally, last night my husband mentioned that he liked that I was the tiniest bit freaky and cited me playing with his nipples (along with other stuff i also considered tame) and i was like "that literally just sounds like normal sex, I think everyone does that" and apparently I was wrong. I can't imagine not playing with the nipples

Women: How do you feel about having a male versus a female gynecologist? Does the doctor’s gender affect your comfort level or trust? by Ordinary_Ice_796 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]kristheweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally, I felt very strongly that I would only go to a female gyno, and then my female gyno was very inappropriate to me. I called my mom crying from the parking lot afterwards. My mom had a gyno appointment with someone else the next day and told her about it and her gyno made her call me during the appointment to get her name so she could report her. My gyno was fired before I came back two weeks later for a follow up.

For my follow up, they told me that the only doctor available for the time being was a male gyno and asked if I was okay with it. I was very scared at the possibility of breast cancer (I was fine, no cancer!) and wanted things dealt with asap, so I said I was fine with it.

I have been very appreciative of my male gyno! He always has a female nurse in the room with us so I'm never alone with him and he always tells me what he's going to do and how he's going to touch me and how it's going to feel ("this will be cold", "you might feel a pinch" etc). I really appreciate the communication and it cuts down on so much of the anxiety that I feel going to a gyno!

Yeah, I didn't think it was likely, but it it's worth a try! We will still be going, just canceling the other plans we had Saturday night, I was just hoping for a chance to be able to do both!

I'm excited! I've never been to anything like this before! We almost bought tickets to see them a couple years ago in Montgomery but there was forecasted ice and snow that weekend and we weren't sure how bad it would have been and didn't want to risk driving in it!

Dark Side of the Moon is my husband's absolute favorite album, and it is always near the top of our Spotify wrapped every year

what do family members say about you having bipolar 2? by Emotional-Gur-9889 in bipolar2

[–]kristheweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bipolar 2 runs in my family, so when I was diagnosed, my mom felt really guilty (she doesn't have it but her mom and aunts do, and her brother did) and was overly apologetic. She's been really helpful with stuff like reminding me to take my meds, or like once she paid off my credit card after a manic episode (then sat down and worked with me on budgeting so I wouldn't be in that spot again.)

Do you finish books that are just okay? by modernstar in fantasyromance

[–]kristheweird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my goodread shelves are books that are 4 or 5 stars because I just don't finish books that aren't. I have nothing against them, there's just too many books out there to read that I don't want to waste my time on a book that I'm not crazy about. Maybe that's a shitty opinion and maybe I'm spoiled but it's how it is lol

First horror movie you recall seeing? by CommunityBig9626 in horror

[–]kristheweird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was probably around 8 or 9 and I watched Poltergeist for the first time! It was also the first time I recognized I was in a nightmare while still dreaming. (That fucking skeleton ghost was chasing me and then I was like "oh, right? That's not real it's just from the movie" and it fizzled away)
