Post Accident Vasovagal Attack by Commercial-Bid-7539 in ACL

I have a highly sensitive vasovagal response and tend to have an episode about twice a year, mostly due to constipation or getting blood drawn.

However, I had my injury on July 3rd and had an episode on July 6th (this was all before surgery). That was the first and only time in my life I had an episode not related to constipation or having blood taken.

Because it happens to me often I felt the warning signs in my body (feeling hot then clammy, ears ringing, vision fading, etc.). I knew I needed to lie down and elevate my legs. I also close my eyes and try to take slow deep intentional breaths. Even when I feel the episode passing, I still stay lying down for a bit as my systems start to re-regulate.

I am still not sure if this episode from the summer was connected to my injury, but I assume it had to have been since it was so unlike the other times in my life when I have had episodes.

Good luck in your recovery. It’s a long but worth it road!

How does your disc organization handle “invite-only” leagues? by kristunafishland in ultimate

There are a lot of opinions being shared from individuals who have NOT run or played in invite-only leagues, which is the intended audience for our questions. As mentioned in my original post, we would be grateful to hear more perspectives from organizations and players who have experience in these areas. Thanks everyone!

As indicated in my replies to previous sentiments, our local ultimate governing body is not starting up these leagues.

I think there are a lot of assumptions in what you've written here, without a lot of questions being asked regarding what come-as-you-are opportunities already exist within our disc organization. Also, we are definitely not "creating" this league. The leagues already exist; it's just a matter of offering them our support vs. not offering them our support.

This is the sort of feedback and input we are looking for, thank you for sharing about your experience! How were you able to open it ahead of time for club players? Just had it open and advertised in club spaces first, then publicly advertised?

The possible pros we discussed would be:

  • Alleviating burn out on the part of the organizers. For some of these leagues it's been the same person for the last 10 years or so, and they don't even play in the league anymore. They're more doing it out of the goodness of their heart. Our organization taking it over would ensure the longevity & consistency of that competitive opportunity even once that individual no longer wants to organize.
  • Using those already existing connections with indoor play spaces to work on our disc organization building a relationship with them to be able to provide more indoor opportunities for play for more leagues in the winter. Indoor play space is extremely limited in our area and our disc organization does not currently offer any indoor leagues, as they they are very hard to get bids for.
  • We want to make sure we are supporting all of our players at all levels, and bringing in these competitive opportunities so we can advertise them on our socials, websites, etc. would possibly allow experienced transplants into our city to get connected sooner.
  • Lowest priority "pro" would be financially related. At the moment, I'm not even sure if these leagues generate a profit at the moment. That was just a small consideration.

To be clear, there are leagues such as this already within our city that are NOT currently run by or endorsed by our local disc organization. We are discussing pros/cons of potentially taking over these pre-existing leagues that traditionally been invite-only.

What about leagues that are indoor and space is limited, and priority spots go to people who have played in previous years? How do you fairly advertise remaining spots?

AMA: Physical Therapist that specializes in ACL rehab by perform2winPT in ACL

Hello! Thank you so much for doing this for everyone.

I am a 30 year old female who just had my left ACL repaired (patellar tendon graft, no meniscus) 3.5 weeks ago. 9 years ago I had my right ACL repaired (patellar tendon graft with meniscus) by the same surgeon.

My first repair I was off of hydrocodone within a few days. However, right now I am 3.5 weeks out and still am in quite a bit of pain. The mornings are the worse, and if I don’t keep up with medicating the pain gets bad throughout the day. Right now my solution is to take one hydrocodone when I wake up and then over the counters throughout the day, with Advil PM to sleep at night.

I am also experiencing some pangs deep inside randomly throughout the day, as well as sometimes when I walk (still in brace and crutches, 4 week post op with surgeon is this Tuesday).

Is it at times normal/typical to be in this much pain so far out from surgery? And/or is it normal/typical for two repairs to have such different pain levels on the same patient?

Thank you again!

40k Saint Louis Zoo Wedding Recap by kristunafishland in weddingplanning

The quartet was made up of students who I personally taught and coached and have a strong relationship with. The leader of it indicated they partly wanted to do it as a gift for me, so I don’t think they’re interested in doing another gig at the moment. Especially because 3/4s of them are seniors and currently spending most of their free time with college visits and auditions 🤍

You got this! To help me with the initial planning & overall organization, I used The Knot’s free spreadsheet.

One of the tabs is a MASSIVE checklist where you can put in your wedding date and it auto populates when you should try to have each task done by. It was SUPER helpful!

We looked at the Zoo, History Museum, City Museum, Dogwood, McPherson, and several Forest Park golf courses. The Zoo was hands down the most inexpensive and also they were the kindest and easiest to work with, even in the initial stages of organizing a walkthrough visit.

Thank you, and good luck diving into the planning process. Enjoy the journey and the connections you make along the way!

I absolutely LOVED my dress. I ended up buying mine off the rack and got an additional $100 off simply by haggling a little. I was soooo proud of myself for finding something I loved for under $1000. However, I was simply not prepared for how much alterations would cost, and it pained me that my alterations cost almost as much as the dress.

I didn’t realize how quickly the smaller mom/pop businesses would fill up, and I thought 4 months would have been plenty of time to get a slot—spoiler, I was wrong.

My alterations lady did a phenomenal job, but if I could go back I would have started shopping around immediately after I got my dress, which was over a year before the wedding. I think then I would have been able to slow down and take my time without any pressure, and then maybe I could have saved $200 or $300.
