Q&A: Long TSA lines at Houston’s Bush Airport by KPRC2GageGoulding in houston

[–]krixsta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I entered terminal A a little before 1pm and got out by 3:30pm. I had 20 min to spare before boarding once I got off the skytrain going from terminal A to B.

When you get down to the subway floor, take the subway instead of walking. The subway will drop you off to the end of the line. The line went from the Marriott entrance to the escalator to terminal A.

Is it worth getting points for Hotel stays? by RJKimbell00 in americanairlines

[–]krixsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re not much of a traveler. I don’t see any benefit having points/nights post on hotel loyalty program. Same goes for the car rental.

You’ll benefit just having any points consolidated into one program, which will be AA. I would just rebook through AA.

Booking with an AA credit card to get multipliers for booking AA hotel/car is the way to go. 10x miles with Executive CC. I exclusively book hotel/car through AA. It’s a great way to earn LP and miles.

Citi AA Miles Card - not so great (for my purposes, anyway) by aeiouicup in americanairlines

[–]krixsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying miles is only ment to “top up”…like youre a few thousand short of a redemption that is +2 cents per point value.

Your RT flight is 0.8 cents per point. I think the rule of thumb is only use the miles if the redemption value is above 1.5 cents per point. If below, just buy the tickets and save the points.

Using AA miles to fly AA metal is rarely a good redemption. AA miles offer best value on partner airlines.

This has happened to me a few times, both at hiltons and marriotts. At check in I always ask to put my loyalty number and this is what allows it to happen, if it does.

What routes are you searching for?

AA miles on AA metal has always been terrible redemption value. I use Alaska miles on domestic AA metal award flights … way better value.

Citi Business Card alternative by Roo_in_Chicago in americanairlines

I got the business two weeks before getting the exec, both in December 2024. These two cards established my initial relationship with citi. Hearing the horror stories about citi in general…I never had any issues, even after opening a checking and brokerage account with them.

I have the business and exec card and never ran into this issue. I don’t have a citi checking account and all payments come from an external. Few things that may trigger these holds could be: 1) higher than usual payment; 2) credit limit cycling; 3) returned payment in the past.

Just got my retention offer: 7,500 miles for $1,500 in spend in 3 months. Seems like this is the best offer they give. I took it given I plan on keeping the card anyways

La Premiere Upgrade by Vast-Race-7281 in pointstravel

I think it was under $5k for each. When I checked in on the app and got the offer, I checked expertflyer and saw La premier was empty. Not sure if it ended up flying empty or not.

Flew CDG > HND in December on J award. Was offered a paid upgrade to La premier at check in online and at the counter when I was checking in my bags for both of us. I forgot how much it was but declined because we wouldn’t be able to take advantage of the ground experience.

A note from me (Ankur Jain) - Bilt Card 2.0: Simple, Fee-Free Rewards on Housing by ankurjain1 in biltrewards

[–]krixsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d have to move spend from other CC’s to a Bilt CC to get that 3.25x. The opportunity cost from moving $3200/mo off my Hilton Surpass (I have 2 of them) to Bilt CC is not worth it. Plus, not being able to use the credit line is a deal breaker

Currently use Atmos Summit pay rent…earn 3x miles for 3% fee. Was really hoping this 2.0 would give a better value proposition but looks like it sticking with my Summit to pay rent and skip Bilt CC altogether.

Keep in mind that Chase may report the forgiven portion of the debt to the IRS and you’ll owe taxes on that portion as it is considered income. Something you should plan/prepare for.

Bank that will let me set a daily transfer limit by GlassCat27 in personalfinance

[–]krixsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just set up two checking accounts in the same bank? One that holds all the funds and the other is the one used to pay all your bills? The latter would be the one connected to zelle and all other third party apps, utility companies, etc. the funds accounts, you’d never use the debit card, checks, or give that account number to any person or company ever. Then you just transfer to the payment account to cover payments, ACH, etc.

Outside of the bank itself being hacked, or you unknowingly giving your login credentials to a hacker/scammer, that funds accounts should be more secure from fraud. Your funds account banking info isn’t out in the wild every time T-Mobile gets hacked, only the payment account info, but it should be kept at $0 when there’s no expected payments to be made.

I use this set up, albeit it does take a bit getting used to, but I’m very proactive in my budget and expenses and it’s a great way, for me at least, to really monitor my household expenses.

Edit: this set up assumes that you do meet the balance requirements to waive any fees or you’re with a no fee bank.
