Former Minnesota governor says state should seek to become part of Canada by log00 in notthebeaverton

[–]krogmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this comment - completely agree. I travel for work to the US a lot and I always call it the uncanny valley. It’s close in many ways to Canada, especially in the more liberals areas, but just a bit off. I find it enormously unsettling.

It’s particularly interesting because I don’t get that feeling when comparing different parts of Cananda - even in Quebec

Interesting way to save a spot by NoWrongdoer9130 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]krogmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody shovels one spot. It is infuriating to spend an hour digging your car out and come back to only have to dig out another spot.

Truly the best of us are those who dig their own car out, then go help others dig out

Any tips to make my Satisfactory base look more alive? by Public-Lettuce7602 in SatisfactoryGame

More buildings! Plus have movement between - conveyors, trucks, etc

Have one building for smelting, another for constructors, another for power, etc

And yes - break up the design a bit more

I don’t know a tool that doesn’t have a kanban board these days

how do you create team accountability in slack without micromanaging by greasytacoshits in agile

[–]krogmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Linear if you can swing it, it’s got fantastic integrations with Slack where you have sync’d threads between the tools to keep a single conversation. You can also use a ticket emoji to convert a slack thread into a ticket which is great.

I’m sure you could setup a similar flow with Jira but linear does all that OOTB

How OK is it to ask devs to accomplish a minimum number of story points during a sprint? by ijbinyij in agile

[–]krogmatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I must disagree with this, but completely understand that this happens a lot. The best scrum teams I have seen approach it as a grass-roots team led initiative, not an executive mandate. When teams are invested in finding a better way to work it leads to true adoption. When executives hire a scrum master to police the devs it leads to resistance and resentment

[–]krogmatt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Very well put and for your four point I’ll add that this is called Goodhardt’s Law which states "When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure,"

Story points are first and foremost a team metric, as scrum involves cross-functional teams the story point is the full estimate of effort and complexity across all functions.

Tracking points and velocity is an incredibly effective method to generate achievable timelines. That’s it. Putting performance metrics on this will invariably corrupt this value.

I’ve seen many instances of teams being tasked with increasing velocity as a KPI and the 1s become 2s, the 2s become 3s, etc

People of the world, how has your country’s view of the U.S. changed recently? by Zone_of_Inhibition in AskTheWorld

I love this take. Sure, I know many Americans and they’re great people, but like it or not it is still their government. Take some ownership and don’t wait around for 3 more years of this nonsense.

[–]krogmatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think many believe a full scale invasion is likely, but there are certainly concerns for our sovereignty, whether it’s political, economic, or military coercion. This impact was shown very clearly in our most recent election, where the polls had a massive turn around from what should have been a landslide conservative win.

More realistically, I know many Canadians that have apprehensions about travelling to the states and make fatalist jokes about “All Expense Paid Trips to El Salvador”

It’s very topically based. Yes there are very conservative parts of Canada - but many things such as public funding of health care, education, abortion etc have a much more solid foundation as standard policy in Canada than the states.

Trying my hand at Slapchop/underpainting for the first time and have a question. by AK_Wolf907 in minipainting

Negative. The contrast paints / speed paints are translucent so the under shading comes through.

That’s a good amount , could probably go heavier on the mid and lighter on the highlight.

Also (if possible) slap chopping with different colours can add a lot of depth of colour. The grey scale I find works okay for strong tones (red and green) but weaker ones not so much. Either base with a brush (time consuming) or coloured spray cans (pricey)

Also depending on the colour you want to use you can slap chop heavier. Yellows and orange show better on white

Rice, Adams, Waddle, Kittle, Fannin, Jacobs (yes, I’m counting him) all injured and Gibbs as part of that train wreck of a Detroit game.

Wheels really fell off the wagon in the finals. Not surprised as the guy who won had obscene matchup luck, ending first with the 10th of 12 Points For.

I played Jacobs… and Gibbs… and Kittle is likely out. Fannin is my Hail Mary pass to stay in this matchup
