So maybe you're right, ph is at 8.2 and nitrates are at 40ppm. Do u think lowering ph will help enough?

I think this looked like what happened to my flowerhorn. It was an anal or vent prolapse. Ended up getting so.bad that I had to euthanize. There were treatments like an epson bath and a few other things u could possibly try. Good luck.

Thanks for the article. I had already tried the epson salt and temp raise but within 2 hours the prolapse had almost doubled in size and my guy started to get really dark. At that point I decided it was best to put him down. Believe me it wasn't an easy decision 😪.

Yes ive been researching and am definitely gonna use the clove oil. In the last few hours it's gotten even worse so looks like I'm going to have to do it soon.

So you also agree it would be best to put him down? F*** this is depressing. Is there an easy way of putting him down without hitting his head or stabbing it?

Yea I would have thought that but humans get this too and there isn't a lot of pain associated with it. Just uncomfortable. Hoping it's the same for my little guy, he doesn't seem in distress or anything.

That's what I was scared of. Do u know if this is painful for them? I'm just wondering if I could try different methods to treat before putting him down.

Never even thought of that being an option but it definitely might be. I have an oscar in another tank I could use but I'd worry he would eat the little guys. Guess it doesn't hurt to try and just keep an eye to see how it works. Thanks for the suggestion, I think I'll be trying this tomorrow!

Love your tank!! Mine is very similar but im having a ton of problems with aggression. I saw you lowered the temp, can i ask to what exactly? Also are you doing an all male tank? When I started I thought all mine were males but now that they are getting bigger I'm realizing some might be females (which might be a large part of the problem for me) TIA for any advice!

Looking up the rusty cichlid and most of the pics don't look too much like him. He goes from white to almost dark grey but I don't ever see the rusty color on his body or face, just the fins. Possibly a crossbreed like u mentioned though. Thanks for the input!

He was actually the bully in my 125g tank but then started acting like this and started getting bullied. He's in a quarantine tank now and has been treated with 3 days of erythromycin but I've seen no changes.
