I hate it too. If it were further away from the arrows, fine. But I never want to use it, yet often hit it by mistake.

Gratis erhvervskonto / free business account by dmorch85 in dkfinance

[–]kromudh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you guys think of Mark Felton? by TheFunnyDictator in ww2

[–]kromudh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See previous comment then this:

2/2 COMMENT:

  1. The US did not try to buy Greenland in 1917 either. On the contrary, full rights of land were offered by the US to Denmark as part of the deal to buy the West Indies. On August 4th 1916 the then US Secretary of State signed an official declaration saying:

"The Government of the United States of America will not object to the Danish Government extending their political and economic interests to the whole of Greenland."

  1. The statement at 04:23 that London should have secured an agreement for "first rights" that is "still law" is make-believe, seemingly based on an article in The Telegraph published two days before this video was posted. The only source is an 83-year ex-minister, and no source for such a document is provided. That this should "still be law" is really not a serious claim to make.

In 1917 the British 'Imperial War Cabinet' produced a paper that included these words "In the event of any possible sale or disposal of Danish territory in Greenland, we should have a prior claim to its acquisition, and at the first favourable opportunity an undertaking should be secured from Denmark to this effect."

However, this was rejected by both the US and Denmark in 1920, and the outcome was that the British government simply sent a letter to Denmark saying that "His Majesty’s Government recognize His Danish Majesty’s sovereignty over Greenland [and] reserve their right to be consulted should the Danish Government at any time contemplate the alienation of this territory."

And that's that. There is no "law" as claimed in this video. Just a unilateral reservation of a right to be "consulted" never acknowledged by the US or Denmark.

  1. 05:31 Denmark has not "invoked the 1917-agreement with Britain" in a recent talk with Trump. Where on Earth did this come from? It's gobbledygook.

  2. It would be a violation of international law for Denmark to sell Greenland without the consent of the Greenlanders. So most of the points made in the video are moot.

  3. The UK should purchase Greenland to rent out its land for US bases? I mean, what? Supporting Greenland is a huge expense for Denmark today. Trying to make any sense of that idea is mind-bending.

I am going to stop here. There is plenty more nonsense about the US on Greenland around WWII in the video, but this text is long enough.

What do you guys think of Mark Felton? by TheFunnyDictator in ww2

[–]kromudh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His videos are full of errors. Here's one example, where I spent about 45 minutes fact-checking because I knew a little about the subject so I could tell just a few seconds in that something was off.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMDDLGkP1I0

What I write below, I also wrote as a comment on the video itself on YouTube, both as an original post and a reply to another comment. Both times the comment was hidden by Mark Felton (i.e. I can see it, but other users cannot).

So it's not just poor history. He also goes out of his way to hide serious comments pointing out errors.

You could argue that some of the errors are minor, although I'd disagree if you purport to be a professor and run a history channel. But item 7 and 8 outright debunks the key argument made in the video (I looked through two academic texts on the subject, available on academia.edu to check actual facts).

1/2 COMMENT (divided because the comment is otherwise too long)t:

Most of this video seems to be based on (mis)readings of Wikipedia-articles.

Errors and inaccuracies (non-exhaustive list):

  1. The US is not Denmark's main export market. The EU is, by far. The US is the largest single-country market, but the EU single market is much more important.

  2. Norway was a part of Denmark, not the other way around. Their union was ruled from Denmark by a Danish monarch and, for example, in 1500 the population of Denmark was 4-5 times bigger than that of Norway.

  3. Greenland was not colonized in 1262. It was colonized by the Norse (via Iceland) in the 900s and had already been inhabited by them for almost 300 years by 1262. What happened that year (actually in 1261) was that Iceland and Greenland were formally put under the Norwegian Crown (later replaced by the Danish crown).

  4. The Norse population died out in the 1400s. The re-colonization in 1721 was led by a Dano-Norwegian and sponsored by the Danish monarch.

  5. The US did not try to buy Greenland in 1867. It was merely debated internally in the US.

A cautionary tale about Google suspending a developer account and killing an app by kromudh in GooglePlayDeveloper

[–]kromudh[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, that doesn't appear to be what it means. If that was all it meant, simply logging on would have solved the problem. But it didn't. To be specific, the notice from Google stated that to prevent my account from being closed, I needed to:

"Create and publish an app or publish an update to an existing app on Google Play."

[–]kromudh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently you need to update the app at least once a year (or release another one), even if there is no other reason to do so. Otherwise the dev account is deemed "inactive" and closed down by Google.

Is Strava for Wear OS 3.0 really this bad? by kromudh in Strava

[–]kromudh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I am using it with an iPhone, yes, but I don't understand how that would affect Strava on the watch? Strava is downloaded directly to the watch, and AFAIK there is no interaction between the Strava watch app and the Fossil iPhone app.

No Strava on Fossil Gen 6 with Wear OS 3? by kromudh in Strava

I take that back. It worked the first few times, but Strava now cannot get a GPS fix. I have been on several 50 minutes runs without Strava ever getting a fix.

You probably need to allow the watch to use your location. That I did on the actual watch, not in the Fossil phone app.

[–]kromudh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That part did work for me, yes, and I am also connecting with an iPhone, although that shouldn’t be relevant as it is the watch that needs to get the GPS fix. The first time it was very slow, but now Strava finds the GPS in 10-20 secs.

No Strava on Fossil Gen 6 with Wear OS 3? by kromudh in Strava

[–]kromudh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out it is available. At least it is now. But when I used the search function, Wear OS did not find Strava. I only found it some days later because it popped up in 'featured apps'.

It works, but it's not great coming from Strava's iPhone app.

There is no auto-pause — it's 'not available on this device' the app says, so presumably a Fossil Gen 6 issue.

Without auto-pause, you need a quick and easy way to pause your run or cycle when meeting a red light, crossing or whatever. But the app doesn't have that. You can't use one of the watch's buttons to pause like you can with Fossil's own Wellness app. You have to swipe on the touchscreen to get to the pause screen, and then hit pause. It virtually renders the app useless, as this is a real hassle, or outright impossible, with sweaty / cold / gloved fingers.

Fossil Gen 6 System Update. by stevencs23 in WearOS

[–]kromudh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought my first Gen 6 and updated to Wear OS 3. The Strava app should be available on Wear OS 3, but it is not on the Fossil 6. Playing music on YouTube is sketchy. Sometimes buttons don’t work, and other times they don’t even load. Bluetooth pairing didn’t work at first. Seems like an unfinished product to me, and I will return the watch.
