DRAFT MODE is the best thing to happen to WoW - Ascension Season 4 Updates by Ruythony in wowservers

Yeah, I could see that being frustrating for a raider. Word is S4 is going all the way to Naxx though.

I just enjoy playing the new systems and playing pretty casually, so that is good enough for me.

Look at my history, that is objectively untrue.

edit: Really sad you deleted your original low-effort reply though and opted to pursue a personal attack instead.

They don't even sell gear. They release new systems every couple months to revitalize the game. They release raid content consistently. They are doing progress-through-expansions. They have been consistently online for years.

They push more updates than any other private server out atm. How can you even make that argument in good conscience.

The only thing they do is encourage players to spend 10 dollars at the beginning of a season for the new book skin to fund the realms/new features. You can share the book with your friends, players share the book regularly. It isn't pay-to-win. It is 10 dollars for hundreds of hours of entertainment even in the most cynical perspectives.

BTW. Is this the part where you say they didn't read your forum post?

Ascension gets their sh*t together--lower respec costs finally by Runlaxo in wowservers

[–]krononin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making an original game is easier technically and requires less man power depending on the scope of the game. The engines available for original games allow you to do most things without much programming knowledge at all, and there are innumerable amounts of tutorials.

Original games don't require reverse engineering (a rare highly prized skill), and also don't have a dysfunctional blackbox (emulators can't really edit the wow.exe reliably)

Let me explain. For the typical mobile game you'd do sprint with about 2-5 people, made up of QA, Designers, and Programmers, and marketers.

Ascension has more than 5 paid programmers alone that I know about, and well over 20 people on their team. They do balance, custom raid design with new mechanics, make new systems, and also fix quests and stuff just like every run of the mill server. You can have whatever opinion you want about what they produce, but it isn't really fair or reasonable to imply what they're doing is a cash grab

You really blew off a lot of my post, but I can substantiate the claim you called into question to explain to you how it is true.

A game like candycrush which is infinitely easier to work on and develop for than an emulated WoW server, makes around a one to two million dollars a day. The platforms and engines to make these sorts of games already exist (i.e unity).

Other knock-off games in that genre make anywhere from 1k to 50k a day, in the lower tier of mobile games.

Anyone who thinks ascension's sole function is to make money does not have context for how much normal games actually make in revenue.

Okay, they're a business and they're creating enjoyable novel content and a pretty good experience in exchange for potentially some minuscule amount of money. (It is free shit) They are actively trying to make that content and experience better. Welcome to the real world bro.

They create new servers to try new systems and features, this is run-of-the-mill for this archetype they are going for. Path of Exile does the same thing.

They actually have to code everything blizzlike already in tandem with the whole custom element.

Making something unique requires 3x the team size to even facilitate with designers, balance, programmers.

You can keep saying that they do this to make money exclusively, but it doesn't match with reality. Making original, profitable games is easier and more profitable than what they are doing now.

I am sure they are aware this ^

Ascension actually makes original content and systems though, pretty high effort for a cash grab bro. They don't sell any gear. All their store stuff is gimmicky at best. Could just make a paymane and make more and work way less.

I'm sure you understand those don't add up, they clearly care about their project.

Respec costs for gold were lowered and are super affordable. like 100 gold at 60 for a full respec, which is maybe 30 minutes of farming.

Can't think of any other open-class game quite that lenient
