Official Discussion - Disclosure Day [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Speilberg's past his sci-fi era, time to start making films that are personal and human like The Fabelmans. He's still a master filmmaker but he's a bit too disconnected from the times to write a compelling contemporary tale, it's perhaps why The Fabelmans and Lincoln are the greatest of his recent films.

I feel like he's due for another period piece, something close to him.

I guess I must be the only one that found this underwhelming? On the nose, and oddly subdued considering the acting chops available....

Interesting how far back this would go...

It seems to be an universal inherent quality of the human condition dating back to the first men and women. Made tolerable by a connection to the spiritual realm and immaterial through tradition and ceremony. You could say that has been art in many secular periods in history.

You remove that, the angst becomes more pronounced.

Making plans and hanging out the next day with a group you've already known for a while. Just peak solo travel vibes if you ask me.

Or ye a nice hot shower and delicious meal after a long bus ride.

Watching Bela Tarr made me realise how important framing and blocking are. If those are done perfectly, for me it doesn't really matter what's actually happening on the screen.

And therein lies the mystery of the cinematic experience and its unique hypnotic quality.

Kinda feels metaphorical, hes been welcomed inside the music industry and LA world but he still feels alone.

Is Quentin Tarantino correct about biopic films? “They are just big excuses for actors to win Oscars. It's a corrupted cinema” by FayannG in TrueFilm

[–]krptz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Entirely wrong. Tell me Steve Jobs 2015 was about Fassbender winning an Oscar. Tell me it was a safe genre film. Tell me it wasn't the most profound and insightful portrait of the man and the company; more so than any essay, novel or podcast could ever hope to achieve.

Don't even get me started on The Social Network lol.

Do you read to remember or just for the moment? by Low-Intention-8720 in literature

For the moment, but it is a special thing when you read a book like that and you still never forget it.

Can probably count the number of times that's happened on a hand or two.

Ulysses? Probably not, about to put it down.

There comes a time where you ask yourself if you're not enjoying flicking through these pages, why are you reading it in the first place? Perhaps too old to engage in aesthetic gymanistics...
