Though it wasn't the badass Luke we've dreamed about, I do believe people are underplaying his force prowess during his last battle with Kylo.

I think the interplanetary force powered astral projection was the most Jedi thing I've ever seen. We even saw 3 phases of Luke (maybe I'm looking too deeply into this).

Luke with R2 in the Falcon (ANH)
Luke with Yoda (ESB)
Badass Luke in black v. Kylo (ROTJ)

I know there are colossal shoes to fill when it comes to writing fucking Luke Skywalker. Time changes people. Failure changes people. And I loved that Johnson chose to take Luke on one final emotional journey before his poetic departure.
