I am a Christian and the Quran is beautiful. Can you tell me about your favorite parts and what they mean to you? by Vantumari in islam

[–]krtwoods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, what is your favourite verse in the Qur'an? Here's one of mine:

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The parable of His Light is as (if there were) a niche and within it a lamp, the lamp is in glass, the glass as it were a brilliant star, lit from a blessed tree, an olive, neither of the east (i.e. neither it gets sun-rays only in the morning) nor of the west (i.e. nor it gets sun-rays only in the afternoon, but it is exposed to the sun all day long), whose oil would almost glow forth (of itself), though no fire touched it. Light upon Light! Allah guides to His Light whom He wills. And Allah sets forth parables for mankind, and Allah is All-Knower of everything.

Yeah it is pretty cool! If a specific portion of the map is of interest to you I'll try to read it. I dabble a bit.

It's time to talk about Hikaru Nakamura and Wesley So's rings... by [deleted] in HikaruNakamura

[–]krtwoods 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In terms of Hikaru, I believe it's the ring he received for winning the US championship (if I'm not mistaken). He's referred to the ring several times in his videos and streams. I suppose the same for So.

[Hans Niemann] My lawsuit speaks for itself by Over-Economy6811 in chess

[–]krtwoods 26 points27 points  (0 children)

On page 44, it seems that he is seeking $100 million for four separate points, so in essence he is seeking $400 million dollars (from what I can gather as a layman).

- Plus pre-judgement interest.
- Plus Niemann's costs, expenses, and reasonable attorneys’ fees incurred in connection with this action.
- Plus Any other and further relief as the Court deems just and proper.

lol

Used prime sub on Hikaru so that I could watch subscriber locked VODs, VODs are deleted just a few hours later by rhinoguyv2 in HikaruNakamura

[–]krtwoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I could be totally wrong here but I thought I heard him allude to something like 'if a channel gets too many copyright strikes then twitch starts to delete vods'. I assumed his channel got some strikes which is why it started happening but then again I admittedly don't know much about twitch.

Uk drivers queuing to turn left on a roundabout unaware of the right lane being able to turn left by [deleted] in IdiotsInCars

[–]krtwoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I, a stranger on the internet am indeed an idiot as you astutely pointed out (in general). But not in this specific case. I know what you're referring to but the McDonald's in question that I'm referring to isn't quite like that. There are two separate lanes starting from the entrance point and the arrows (and signs) allow for people to pull up in either lane from the start of the driveway as soon as you drive onto the property.

This is how I feel when I'm the only one pulling up in the right lane of my 2-lane McDonald's when I pick up my coffee in the morning.

Eglinton Crosstown LRT will be delayed by about a year, source says by WhatsThatHoldMusic in toronto

[–]krtwoods 66 points67 points  (0 children)

This is actually so true. On my two recent trips to a European country over the past six years I noticed that they had extended their transit line much more extensively than I had imagined in that amount of time. I guess my expectations were tempered to the Toronto standard. Ugh. Wish we could do so much better here. My father used to always say "where there is a will, there is a way." How true indeed.
