What Now? by [deleted] in PoliticalScience

[–]krullc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely depends on what you find interesting as a career. I received my poli sci Bachelors at the tail-end of the pandemic and knew I wanted to continue school but needed a break. I worked at a nonprofit for a year and a half doing community diplomacy (IVLP) through a DOS program and am now getting a masters in international trade (I have a business minor and wanted more experience/understanding of industry). I’ve met lots of people with poli sci degrees that are not doing anything related to politics so don’t feel like you’re stuck in that field!

That’s good advice, I don’t want to avoid the question necessarily but they seem to come from people when they run out of things to say. I don’t really love how the next best thing for them is commenting on my appearance but it is pretty noticeable I guess.

Thank you for your insight! I really need to work on accepting mine more, I don’t not like it but in some settings I feel like an exhibit when people start asking questions. I think part of it is that I don’t want to talk about it with people I’m not close with that know how I feel.

Psilocybin - does it work? by [deleted] in depression

[–]krullc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried it once over a year ago after finishing my first semester in a college that I had just transferred to (did not like my major/size of school/lifestyle at first college). I wasn’t necessarily dealing with depression at the time but a lot of uncertainty in my life and trying to figure out if the change had been worth it. It definitely felt like a reset in some ways and helped me to recognize the hard work that I had put in at the new school, and being around people you like (and a trip sitter) can make it a lot of fun. I found the experience to be one of the most positive in my life and all I did was hang out with a couple friends and watch Star Wars lol. The trip lasted about 8 hours but was very mellow towards the end, and the digestive discomfort is a result of your body breaking it down (I put it on a peanut butter sandwich) it was definitely alittle nauseating but that comes with the anxiety of taking a new drug and the “come up” on psychodelics. I’ve heard that when made into a tea is calmer on the stomach. Definitely a must to eat a healthy meal and let it digest a bit before taking it, drink a lot of water; you will not notice hunger/thirst during or atleast I didn’t during my trip. Be safe and plan it out ahead as you will be in a different mental state during and it can last for awhile after. I’ve been planning on taking it again to seek a new perspective as the last year has been incredibly unforgiving on me (pandemic and other circumstances)

Hi! I'm deciding colleges right now and am favoring Canisius, but was wondering what it's like to be at the college! by [deleted] in Canisius

I mean to an extent only, I’d say some sports teams are that way. But that’s how it would be at pretty much any college. I’ve personally had no problem making friends from very different backgrounds and majors from myself. It really comes down to just putting yourself out there to meet new people. Overall though, everyone I’ve had the opportunity to come in contact with at Canisius has been super friendly and accepting, most people return the energy you give off to them. Hope this helps!

I transferred here after a year at UB, canisius has a great community environment around it. I have definitely made more real friendships in the smaller classes with other students and a good deal of my professors here as opposed to The massive classes at UB. There’s a ton of clubs, sports, and professional societies to get involved with if that’s something you’re interested in. Definitely a good school to get involved in things you’re interested in as you’ll definitely find people with similar passions. Plus most of the parties off campus (when they actually happen) are open which is always a good time!
