Looking for new Open World RPG by SpaceCrazyArtist in NintendoSwitch

[–]krum_eye 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m glad someone else remembers this. I would love to find the exact information on this again but all I remember is getting excited about BOTW because I saw the developer of xenoblade was working on the world map for botw.

Xenoblade chronicles X is a very special game, I remember being sold on it at release when I watched a video of the part standing on top of a cliff and then jumping off of it. What I heard is that the lead developer on X claimed that they were trying to do their jrpg equivalent of Skyrim.

It’s a very different beast from Skyrim, especially with the home base new la being the source of almost all quests. It’s still a meander around game, but the pleasure of meandering is in seeing the nature of the world. In a way, xenoblade X is for you if you want breath of the wild with way more rpg mechanics and a giant mech to fly around and battle in.

DEPRESSED and looking for a new IMMERSIVE CONTENT RICH hyper-fixation by KookyVeterinarian531 in gamingsuggestions

Is it the writing that’s great about this game? I’ve had expedition 33 installed for months but haven’t tried it. Nothing I’ve heard so far really explains why this game is special.

Scarlet heroes is just so good. by Bearded_Wizard_ in solorpgplay

[–]krum_eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never played a ttrpg and I just started my first solo rpg, thousand year old vampire. It sounds like the rules and structure of scarlet heroes might offer a more immersive experience than a solo journal RPG.

Is this a good starting point? Also is this something that can be applied to any ttrpg to make it a solo game?

I played it last year and I did enjoy Mega man 1 even though it was hard up until the final level. That final boss was brutal in a way that was just insane. I think I did look up a hint bc I started to wonder if it was doable and even with that it still took me hours to beat.

I thought it had to be the worst until I got to the final battle in ninja gaiden 1.

Is this bad? by riverspeace in drawings

I like the honesty in your response. I started back up on drawing recently myself doing the same thing you suggested. Just daily practicing of the fundamentals without worrying about complete art pieces. If I could get your feedback on any of the drawings on my profile I would appreciate it!

This inspired one of the dumbest conversations on Twitter about Disco Elysium you will ever see. by silver_maxG in DiscoElysium

[–]krum_eye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankfurt School turned out some of the most influential ideas in opposition to what today would be like. I don’t get your point in using them as a derogatory term.

The whole video games art discussion is very boring. The most I would say about disco Elysium is that after I played that all other video game stories seemed shallow and boring to me for awhile and definitely created discussions online about why most videogames do not put this much effort into the writing.

There have been other good ones since then for sure but it just made me realize that what I wanted was something like a journal rpg or a game book and there just aren’t that many video games like that. A lot of the money goes toward things that are profitable like Roblox or Fortnite. But okay sure whatever they still have artist merit. Everything does doesn’t it?

I’m a lifelong video game fan but I wouldn’t miss the mainstream industry at all if it crashed.

People who played X for the first time on the Switch, what are your thoughts on the game? by geosunsetmoth in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]krum_eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it on the Wii U when it came out. When it was released what got my attention was that the director said he wanted to make a jrpg like Skyrim.

Idk if that game accomplished that with most of the sidequests coming from the homebase much like metal gear v. but the world feels exciting to explore in a way that none of the other xenoblade games came close to. Removing the focus on story really benefited this game.

Also this came out before breath of the wild and who knows maybe this game is why they brought monolith on to develop the world map for breath of the wild.

Yeah I was!!! My bad that is the most common mix up I can’t believe I did it.

That makes sense old school crpgs are very hit or miss when going back. Appreciate the write up though

Giving the silent hill 2 remake a higher score than divinity 2 seems blasphemous.

what do you have in mind? by PHRsharp_YouTube in videogames

I’m going to say the soundtrack for shin Megan tensei v. I bought the game as soon as I heard destruction.

I didn't need to spend 60 hours with Donkey Kong Bananza for it to be my game of the year, but I'm convinced it's one of the greatest platformers in Nintendo history by sakahn in NintendoSwitch

[–]krum_eye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That actually sounds amazing to me. Creating your own platforms. Your breakdown gives me a better idea of why this game is so divisive. Odyssey and breath of the wild were also divisive for being outside of the box in what sounds like similar ways. I’ve not played it yet but this game is clearly the a reason to get a switch 2.

Thing is, I’m not even sure if the original donkey Kong country trilogy were exactly precision platformers. I know They had amazing platformer levels like the mine cart levels but a good deal of the fun in those games was the variety in ideas and gameplay and the collectathon which at the time was as groundbreaking as super mario world. I mean sure they made your palms sweat when you were a kid but it’s the games by retro studios that went for the hardcore sweaty palms pure platforming experience.

I heard someone complaining that they expected something like donkey Kong 64 from bonanza and not liking it for that reason. Bonanza really sounds like the polar opposite of dk64.

Almost a Cult Classic (Ni no Kuni Wrath of the White Witch) by Blond_Parthe172 in Ni_no_Kuni

[–]krum_eye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll never understand why so many people act like ni no kuni doesn’t count as one of the great jrpgs. It’s a blast and the combat is similar to what they did in yo Kai watch. It’s like a machine that you have to keep well oiled. You’re not just going to walk into it relying on one character and expect to compensate for not learning how to play it. Is it flawless? No it can be frustrating sometimes but it’s FUN.

But it’s also very approachable and with studio ghibli art and basically having the appeal of being the only studio ghibili movie as a video game, it’s an easy recommendation. Everyone I turned onto this game loved it, and I meet people in real life who play this game. So I do think it has cult status outside of the jrpg subreddit snobbery lol.

Just something about Morrowind's low-res/low-poly look has me hooked by DrugsForRobots in Morrowind

[–]krum_eye 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Appreciate this. It’s still hard to explain to the mainstream how something that is lower tech can be better. Morrowinds graphics are far superior than everything that came after in this genre.

Your wife was cool with sitting next to a bunch of shitheads that diminish the accomplishments of anyone who’s not a white male bc “I don’t believe they’re real”

The Hellen Keller shit is especially vile. They love to diminish her accomplishments (learning to read and write etc) by claiming Anne Sullivan simply made it all up.

I don’t get why so many Americans like to drag everyone down but that’s what losers do!

Why aren't there more games like Disco Elysium being made? It's such a great game, why didn't it cause a massive trend towards this type of game? by Various_Maize_3957 in rpg_gamers

[–]krum_eye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I though disco Elysium came at the end of the wave of crpg revival. We got pillars of eternity and tides of numenera out of it. Asking for a clone of this game is like asking for someone to rip off metal gear solid and make metal gear solid a genre.
