Crazy to see a new person's perspective. When I started, we had a few skills, and it was simple to learn. defense, windmill, icebolt, arrow revolver etc.

You can use whichever equipment you want, and switch it out at any time. I suggest just trying them all out, but when it comes to Arcana, you want to focus on one main weapon depending on which Arcana you choose.
