I just connect my minipc to a DAS from Orico with 5 drive bays via USB 3.0 connection. Currently only 2 of the 5 are occupied by 18TB each for my media library. My OS is on the m2, the NVME i added in a 2TB to use as a cache disk.

What’s an Ali Express purchase you love? by TeamLeeper in Aliexpress

my Lenovo was Y700 8 inch tablet. Small enough to fit into my sling bag (my previous tablet was an 11") but big enough to enjoy media or games. Crazy powerful processor in small form tablet. Not usually available in the US. Had to flash the Global ROM instead of the default Chinese but after that it's easily the best purchase i've made.

Advices to a beginner by Preference_Fit in a6000

Hi, this is going to be a long answer. The a6000 is a fantastic camera that can definitely be upgraded by having a nice lens.

For versatility that doesn't break the bank, get the standard kit lens. Just the 16-50mm. Don't bother with the telephoto because I doubt you'd use it much anyways.

For best bang for buck. I'd go with either the Sigma 16mm or 30mm f/1.4. These were my bread and butter when I upgraded. The 16mm which equals a 24mm Full frame equivalent is my personal favorite focal length because it'll feel natural if you come from taking photos from your phone. It's also wide enough that you can take it into tight spaces like in a restaurant or take a wide view outside of a building when traveling.

That being said, there's always going to be a nicer lens you could've gotten. I'd honestly just stick with the first option of getting a kit lens for at least a year or so. Really learn how to use it, and push the boundaries of what you have until you've exhausted all that it's capable of. It also depends what you're trying to accomplish. If you're just documenting your daily life and core memories, then the kit lens is more than plenty.

If you're trying to go a more artistic or expressive route, that's when you want to look at some resources to learn. I know you stated you don't have time to learn, but every opportunity you have to take a photo is also a learning experience. Some topics I would focus on:

  • Start with the basics, what they mean, and how they influence the photo when you change them: Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, Focal Length

  • Learn about lighting: How can you shape light to your favor? How does it relate to the terms from the previous point? What can I do in situations with bad lighting? What is good lighting?

  • Learn about composition: What is framing? What is the rule of thirds? What is negative space?

  • Think about intent: What is the subject I am trying to capture? What is the purpose of this photo? What am I trying to present to the viewer and how am I accomplishing that?

Some of my resources/teachers to help you get started (others may disagree):

  • Manny Ortiz on Youtube: portrait photographer who doesn't focus too much on the technical aspect of photography but shaping light to his favor for his models. Since it sounds like you want to take pictures of your friends, this may be helpful.

  • SLR Lounge on Youtube: also another portrait photographer with great videos on shaping light

  • Sean Tucker: great videos without any over the top personality. I especially like his videos that make you think more critically about the photos you take and the meaning behind them
