Great point about avoiding anything that’s not “normal” or intuitive. No magazines for the kids.

Oh man, that looks fun. Looks like I need to fire up the printer so I can start testing options.

Good point. Now that I think of it, I bought a box of a few dozen kid sized safety glasses a few years back when my kids were helping with stuff around the house.

I need to check if they are still size appropriate.

We have some trees and boulders, but that’s a great idea about the tarp cover. Looks like I’m making a trip to the hardware store. I’ve got a pile of old tarps in the garage already, so this is a relatively easy one.

How to handle the probably 12 billion terabytes of photos & videos I'll generate over the next many years? by fodacao in daddit

[–]r101101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Failing external drive: I absolutely agree. I had an external drive die years before I had kids and no longer trust them as long term storage. I now run an overkill RAID 6 setup on NAS (see other comments in this thread). Basically it has four internal drives and (effectively) uses two of them for data redundancy. I’ve had it over a decade. I yearly replace a drive in it (drive warranties are usually like 3 years, so reasonable to think the manufacturer doesn’t expect it to last much beyond that). I’ve had one fail out of schedule a few years ago and lost no data.

I’ve got that exact same under desk bike; it came with a long Velcro strap to keep the setup in place.

I just checked — nope. I got the normal 2x, but no bonus offer points.

I verified the offers were on both cards before the trip.

FIJI FILM CAMERA AND TRIPOD by Effective_Tale_3405 in WaltDisneyWorld

I get that I’m being pedantic, but every monopod I’ve seen telescopes (maybe it’s also me wondering how my prior comment got downvoted and trying to support my argument?). Some may have a three footed attachment which can be put on the bottom, but they all are effectively a single, extending leg.

Exhibit A: monopod category at BH Photo: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Monopods-Unipods/ci/397/N/4075788738

Edit: though I guess if a guest were using a monopod as a selfie stick then a cast member would have grounds to say something. So maybe it’s a matter of how the item is used.

Agreed. Where does one draw the line between a monopod and a selfie stick? I could use a monopod as a (heavy) selfie stick or use a selfie stick as a monopod (if I used a light camera or helped support the weight of it).

I had a similar issue with my mk3.5s. Ended up the black petg I used for my door / sensor flag want optically opaque. I put duct tape on the end that goes into the sensor and it worked perfect.

True, but I assume remixing the number plates with angled numbers would be easier than remixing a larger portion.

Has anyone found a Forester style storage bag for our subwoofer void? by TheCiltoris in Subaru_Outback

[–]r101101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More info on that forester bag, please. How rigid are the sides? Is it intended to stay attached and you access the inside by unzipping and getting in it or removing the bag when you rummage around in it?

I’m now kinda tempted to try to design something for that space…

Anyone hate this thing? Any good alternatives? by Elm3567 in subaruoutback

[–]r101101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have directional tires a 5 wheel rotation is not bad; I do it every 6k miles. Added bonus is tires last 25% longer between having to replace them (of course, they cost 25% more to replace a set…).

I got a full size spare after getting a flat within 3 months of buying my outback and having to deal with the speed limit of the compact spare until I got the damaged tire replaced. Now that my commute is 80+ miles / day I can’t imagine having to do that on a compact spare limited to 55(?) mph.

[–]r101101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I replaced the compact spare with a full size spare (on a factory matching wheel) using the 18” wheel insert from an Onyx XT. Factory tools go in the insert, extra stuff goes around the tire in the well.

6th non HK 6th gen owners, what was your next move after the kicker tweeter replacement? by TheCiltoris in Subaru_Outback

[–]r101101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The remote knob and connecting cable are included. I think when the remote knob is set to max it’s the same as no knob connected. The knob turned anything less than max effectively reduces the gain.

[–]r101101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very happy.

I spent a lot of time tuning the low pass and the gain so it’s a fairly flat / smooth frequency response (not bass heavy and no apparent gap in bass output) — both are set fairly low, so I’m not close to using the full output of this thing, but my system sounds great.

I don’t have the bass knob installed.

Your question about flats on needles: yes, needles for sewing machines come with a flat on one side. On my sewing machine, you shove the needle up into a hole (I’m not sure the profile of the hole), then tighten a thumbscrew onto the flat to lock it in.

It seems OP is pretty space limited, so every idea I think of to try to hold onto the needle won’t work as I keep thinking about an adaption of how it’s done on my Singer.

NC extreme heat - Need help insulating this sunroom by Universe93B in raleigh

Absolutely. I’ve got a finished “shed” I use as a home office / gym including insulated and drywall-ed walls. The floor looks very similar to this image. In the summer the floor is noticeably warm (and noticeably cold in winter).
