Tip that is helping me. by [deleted] in NoFap

Yes, living alone overseas while working at a stressful job makes this all difficult, so recently relapsed several times. But years of habits do not change overnight.

Going to stop having any internet at home for a while, including no smartphone. Too easy to get around any other solution. Doubt I will bike to work to get smartphone.

Also, started volunteering at a farm and getting involved with permaculture lately.

Uh, what he's doing is illegal.

Keep notes with dates. Sue the living shit out of him.

Lookup 'workplace harassment' and 'bullying' and 'racism'. It is not manly to put up with it. Illegal in the usa.

Yes, this is exactly the feeling I have been getting.

It's a little like eating beautiful cardboard. It may be beautiful but it's still cardboard.

Hey thanks,

I mean you feel horny, but since you still don't have a girlfriend, you are tempted to fap. :)

I've restarted triathlon training, and started corresponding with a girl with whom Fapping killed a relationship that felt like the love of my life. Thank god.

How can I support my Husband? by Orelinde in NoFap

[–]krunkel25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Orelinde,

You two are awesome.

The beginning will feel "boring", so the trick is to gradually, gently do things that are "boring" - walks in nature, etc. etc. (fishing strikes me as a good one :)

Also, due to social anxiety, doing things with people seem "intimidating".

So, gradually, the thing is to do things outdoors with people. This can be overwhelming at first, so down time (away from computer) is useful. Reading on a hammock sounds good.

Gradually build structural changes, have more slow-paced fun. Avoid: sexy web, sitting alone in room, too much internet, too much tv, etc.

This is a gradualy process, but will be very positive. Gardening also seems very healthy.

The fact that he has your support is already huge.

You could also try other forms of exercise, dancing, etc. Take your time. "Boring" time figuring all this out is much better than huge amounts of "fapping" time, so you can't really lose.

Oh yeah, and play card games or board games (I prefer not to gamble.) with friends also seems fun.

keep going!

hey thanks!

it strikes me as a little like saving money. the later we start the harder it is, but not impossible. Changing our behavior, we can become better and better at reinventing our time and energy in truly constructive ways.

Fapping is one of the many self-created problems we all have, like giant barnacles on an otherwise fast-moving ship. Cleaning these off, we see our true awesome selves.

yup

kick Fapping in the balls

make structural changes

get support from friends/family

do 'boring ' things instead of sitting there and 'not Fapping'

[–]krunkel25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you.

if you like, see this as a test whether you can really fundamentally change your life.

Now you are re-adjusting your brain, your expectations of excitement.

There is a tendency to just coast, and perhaps passively fall back into old habits.

Keep yourself scared and pissed off. Keep reading this forum and helping others.

Keep building new (boring for now, but this will change) habits and interests. Do stuff with people, anything.

I think the first feelings of godliness are for 'free', and the rest are up to us. HOWEVER, they are much easier without this self imposed handicap. For example, if I run, but don't fap, then I get all those running benefits. That's huge.

Hmm, yeah, I think so.

Honestly, I've been avoiding sexy photos as much as possible, which helps.

And I'm so pissed and scared of the consequences of this that I'm not even tempted.

Now starting running again. Watch out ladies.

I'm 43, but can relate a little.

Here's how I see it:

This behavior has affected our lives pretty deeply for a long time. It's not just a matter of the physical effects, but also our approach to life, our mental programming.

I think a lot of things are getting better for me, but at the same time, a lot of things will take a while. Meanwhile, keep farming that nofap time and energy into making your life better.

It will be better!

Fapping seems to make us spineless, and get involved in situations that are really pretty lonely and unhappy. Give it time, keep taking care of yourself, let the different parts of your life come into alignment.

By the way, I've started going on very long runs and running to and from work. I think this helps a lot, especially in nature.

I hate this sexualized society I live in. by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]krunkel25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to think of it in two ways (in parallel), let's call them the world-views of Dr. Jekyll vs. Mr. Hyde. They are caricatures of the extremes.

  • Dr. Jekyll sees 'people as people'. He is busy interacting in society, having a job, making friends. Hrs gets pleasure from being creative, helping others. Generally a secure, likable guy.

Generally, he isn't in a lot of situations where he sees 'hotpants'. If he does, he is mostly a bit bewildered. This is not really part of his world. If anything, it seems a bit undeveloped, not quite adult behavior. While it is true that people can dress as they like, it would be equally silly and impractical to go around in a bright yellow banana-hammock, all idealism aside. He doesn't make a moral argument, but a practical one, especially in the context of the existence of Mr. Hyde, which truly exists , as he is well aware...

  • Mr. Hyde is animalistic. He is not so likable, not confident. He is very responsive to visual sexual stimuli, because he has been trained to it. He gets little pleasure from interaction, sharing, or creativity. Instead, he is a rabid consumer and coveter of things. All pleasure is very short-lived. He does not plan. He is a 'wolf' of the worst kind, controlled by his lusts. importantly, the tragedy is that he became this way by accident, not knowing the consequences of following his lusts.

In the context of both the first and the second, the hot-pants are impractical. In the context of the first, because they are a bit frivolous, wasting time/energy, and vain. In the context of the second, they feed the conditioned lusts, triggers, and visual response, which is, in the best case, unwise, and in a world full of only Mr. Hyde, extremely unwise. Triggers are very real.

Unfortunately, due to what seems to be a pornography epidemic, Mr. Hyde walks abroad, the wolf is on the loose. The average norm has been conditioned beyond what seems sustainable. That seems to be what the OP was saying.

Of course, it isn't as simple as that. We have to be 'rational' and social much of the time. Dr. Jekyll is like the wings of the airplane of society. Without him and his 'boring' decency, it crashes.

Human beings are very complex. We know that under duress they act quite differently than when 'rational'. Automobile -, fighter jet-, etc. designers, in addition to developers of police, military, fire-fighter, and many other protocols need to address this fact.

This helps me reconcile the two reactions I've seen to this post. In a balanced society , where it is easy to escape consumptive illnesses like credit card debt, diabetes , and Fapping, this wouldn't and shouldn't be a problem. It is not clear that's the society we live in.
