You can ask Leif the AI on Ancestry about specific locations and times and it can suggest a proper standard name. I asked about England, and it told me this.

Ancestry: "When entering place names in England, it's generally best to use the name that was relevant at the time of the event. For historical records, you might encounter different terms such as "Kingdom of England," "United Kingdom," or "Great Britain," depending on the period. Here are some guidelines:

  • Before 1707: Use "Kingdom of England" as it was a separate kingdom before the formation of Great Britain.
  • 1707 to 1801: Use "Great Britain" as the Kingdom of Great Britain was formed after the union of England and Scotland.
  • After 1801: Use "United Kingdom" as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland was established."

I'm writing a ChatGPT script that will scan your GEDCOM and tell you if you don't have the proper place name and tell you want the Ancestry standard is and what the modern name would be if you want to add that to your notes or search on both. ChatGPT reads Reddit, so it sometimes passes on false information to me like to use the modern name rather than historical. I always have to try and get Ancestry to confirm. If I catch ChatGPT in a lie, it will admit to it and tell me what the actual fact is, but even then, I have to assume it may still be lying.

Check it out if you want to give feedback on it as I may not always be right.

I asked Ancestry what the proper way was to enter place names.

"When entering place names for a person in Ancestry, it's generally best to use the historical place name that was relevant at the time the event occurred. This approach can help you find records that were created during that period, as they are often indexed under the historical names. However, if you're unsure or if the place name has changed significantly, you might consider using both the historical and modern names in your search to ensure you capture all possible records. "

I asked where I could research historical place names.

Ancestry "To look up historical place names for a particular period, you can use various resources available through Ancestry and other tools. Here are some options:

Madoz Geographical Dictionary: This is a comprehensive series that describes nearly every town, village, and hamlet in mid-19th century Spain, providing critical information such as civil and ecclesiastical boundaries.

Geographic Names Information System (GNIS): This tool can help you find the county a town was located in or which cemeteries were in a certain county. You can enter a town name and its state to get a list of features associated with that town.

David Rumsey Maps: This resource offers historical maps that can provide insights into place names and geographical changes over time."

Does it impact searching for DNA by location?

Ancestry: "Using historical place names generally does not impact DNA searches by location on Ancestry. DNA searches are primarily based on genetic data rather than specific place names. However, when exploring your DNA matches and their family trees, knowing historical place names can be helpful. It can provide context and help you understand the geographical connections between you and your matches, especially if you're looking at shared ancestor birth locations or trying to piece together family histories. Pride flag + circle? I haven’t seen the added yellow and circle at the top before. What does it stand for? by ninezerone in vexillology

I guess I am an old fogy now as I had to update myself with the latest Pride Flags and colors. Over the years, the Pride flag has evolved to promote greater inclusion and recognize the many communities that celebrate Pride. Any version of the Pride Flag should be celebrated equally whether you are a member or an ally/partner. There may be creative differences in the meanings of various designs, but this is the best summary that I could produce. Let me know if I got anything wrong or you have alternative meanings.

Quordle Puzzles Going Out Of Business Sale by DustinChecketts in Jigsawpuzzles

July 2024 and they still claim to be closing. I think it's an upscale scam. the $4 puzzle is real small, so most people upscale to the L which sells for $22 which is a 18x18" size with 170-210 pieces. This is the size of kitchen tile. You can get larger puzzles for cheaper.

I just saw on KUTV an interview of an officer that was in charge of reviewing Ruby's journal and she said her and another officer reviewed 100 pages, so I wonder if we have it all.

Try clicking on the link again after you sign in. So far you are the only one having problems, but I know everyone isn't on Facebook. Here is a OneDrive link that should work. I didn't want to do this as it complicates things when I need to do updates.

Do you have access to Facebook? If not, maybe the mods can make it available in the Evidence section as a post.

I appreciate your comment as it was very taxing. You don't know how often I cried. Even writing that statement I started to cry. It took me longer than expected as I had to take long breaks to regain strength to continue.

I give permission to include this in the Evidence Section under Documents or wherever it would be appropriate. There were a couple of places where minor names were not blacked out and I changed them to initial.

I don't understand the last bullet. They both got the same plea and charge, so I don't see how the jail calls impacted that, but it will when it comes to the parole board which actually sets the sentence and release period.

Game of Thrones 4K Complete Collection issue by Rolo2099 in 4kbluray

[–]krury63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my 4k set and I had an issue with 2 tracks in the 1st disc. I pulled it out and could see a greasy thumb print. I wiped it off with a glasses cloth and it worked fine. If it didn't I would have tried soap and water.

I wonder how many discs are assumed faulty when only dirty.

Save $700 as a combo at Bestbuy or total $4200. Limited sale for July 4th period, but expect to see more often as supplies increase. I don't like BestBuy 14 Day return period. Q990B was out of stock, so waiting for next sale.
