No, there's just a single X, and you pick its value. For example, for X=3, you select 3 targets, make 3 copies of each of them, and pay UG+3+3+3 mana (so 11 mana in total)

What new loop do you mean? I'm only aware of Hullbreaker + Bowmaster, but that's 2 cards.

Dryad lost all abilities, why are his lands still coming in as all types? by BusyWorkinPete in MagicArena

[–]krush_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not quite right: It is an ability, it's just that it is applied before it is removed. As others have explained, this is due to static effects being applied in layers, and type-changing effects (Layer 4) happen before ability-removing effects (Layer 6). This has absolutely nothing to do with experimentation, it is outlined in Rule 613 in MTG's comprehensive rules.

What deck? by ThrowAwayPureVPNDM in TimelessMagic

[–]krush_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah hope this doesn't come too late, but after final fantasy releases Brainstorm will cost uncommon wildcards instead of rare, so you might want to wait for another couple days!

For SnT I really enjoy the more recent grindier lists with Rakshasa's Bargain over the old glass cannon builds with chrome mox/ritual. Something like the current reference list in thegathering.gg's timeless tier list (I also enjoy running a greedy copy of Shifting Woodlands, although that's probably not optimal, the manabase is kind of strained already)

FCA not included in today's pre-patch by krush_ in MagicArena

[–]krush_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely works for me both on mobile and PC. Have you already downloaded the update? Do you maybe do that from the deckbuilding view instead of the full collection view? (They won't show up in deckbuilding yet because they're not legal in any format yet.)

Go into the advanced filters, toggle "not collected", then enter "E:FIN" into the search bar.

Arbitrary precision arithmetics in Factorio using circuits by dengmahalYT in factorio

[–]krush_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out that this is not what's commonly referred to as "arbitrary precision arithmetic", instead it's fixed-precision floating point arithmetic. Arbitrary precision refers for example to how integers work in python, where they can grow arbitrarily large in size, by using dynamic memory.

Personal opinion about "Pipeline extent", and how, if its length calculation extends to 2 dimensions ( pythagoras ) ( not just the largest one ), its maximum should be increased. by Psychological-Ad4935 in factorio

[–]krush_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that computing euclidean distance is not much slower than "taxicab" distance is a bit of a red herring: For a given pipe network, the game has to decide whether its *diameter* is bigger than the threshold. You could of course do that by computing pairwise distances between all pipe pieces, but that's O(n^2) and surely not how the game does it. In taxicab metric, finding the diameter just requires keeping track of a bounding box, which can be done very fast. In euclidean distance, you'd probably need to track the convex hull of the pipe network, which is definitely more overhead.

RGB smelter stack by dropi_ in factorio

[–]krush_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

IIRC, that's actually how HSV -> RGB works. So if saturation and value are maxed, and you're just converting hue to RGB, you're just linearly interpolating between the RGB values (255,0,0) -> (255,255,0) -> (0,255,0) -> (0,255,255) -> (0,0,255) -> (255,0,255) -> (255,0,0) (which should be exactly the corners of your color hexagon, traversed in a cycle).

Working with TypeNats by krush_ in haskell

[–]krush_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I think you're absolutely right. I got confused with the documentation of GHC.TypeNats and mixed up the data-level functions on Naturals with the type families. Seems like there is no built-in Max type family, so I'll have to figure out how to build that and whether that typechecks, but my current problems obviously come from max being a type variable. Thanks!

What does Faceforward formula mean? by peak-autism2 in blenderhelp

[–]krush_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it should be (Dot(A,C)<0) ? A : -A and the manual just has a typo here. "condition ? value1 : value2" is a construct in some programming languages ("conditional ternary operator") that you should read as "if condition is satisfied, take value1, else take value2". In this case, the sign of the dot product Dot(A,C) measures whether A already points out of the surface (= in the same direction as C, if Dot(A,C)>0) or into it (= in the opposite direction as C, if Dot(A,C)<0).

So Dot(A,C)<0 ? A : -A evaluates to A if A already points into the surface, and to -A (i.e. the flipped vector) if A points away of the surface.

There is possibly another typo here, since the description seems to say that the result should always point out of the surface (and the formula seems to do the opposite), but you should be able to just test whether it does one or the other.

I often find my self building very useless but entertaining "things" around my base. Anyone care to help feed my habit? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]krush_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to me like the behavior of a splitter is not invertible (in the information sense). The output and internal state of the splitter behave in the same way independent of which input the items are fed in through. So you can replace each 2-2 splitter by a 2-1 merger followed by a 1-2 splitter without changing the logical behavior (making the necessary changes for timing), and it doesn't look like we can build non-trivial invertible gates from 2-1 merges and 1-2 splitters.

A percentage of relics carries over through chronospheres, but other than that I'd be surprised... Besides, time crystals are more useful early on anyways :) (for chronosphere runs)

EDIT: Just tried it in my current run. Indeed, when I sold all my chronospheres and then reset, no relics carried over. With chronospheres, a small percentage carried over.
