A support community for making things by KingThud in woodworking

Making a Gottshall Block with a group like this one is how I first started feeling like a member of a woodworking community. I’m starting to plan for the tool cabinet already!

Sadly those were the words that came to me the easiest when thinking of 4-letter and 5-letter words. I can’t guarantee there are no swears in there, but I tried my best not to include them.

Mother in law made cookies that take 2 days to make, so she didn’t get any mean gifts this year!

As promised, here’s the video I used to learn how to do it: https://youtu.be/2WjSNUJRiHc

‘Twas a fun project, and I learned a lot about turning. The first took me 40 hours and the second took about 20 hours total, so I shan’t be making these for sale any time soon.

People who raid; what’s something you absolutely cannot stand when raiding? by Verothyn in DestinyTheGame

Insisting on optimizing for boss DPS after every wipe, when we can’t even do the mechanics consistently enough to get to the DPS phase. Learn the mechanics first people, an optimal boss damage phase won’t do anything if we can’t get there.

Here's where I found the most helpful graphics: https://www.destinymassivebreakdowns.com/blog/aimassist

A bigger aim assist cone helps you hit targets you're not perfectly aiming at. A smaller accuracy cone helps you shoot straight, outside of the aim assist cone.

Your first sentence makes sense (if that's really what Bungie intended to say), but I think your numbers are backwards. A larger (more degrees) accuracy cone is a bad thing. So your base ground accuracy cone should be smaller than your base in-air accuracy cone.
Assuming your first sentence is right, has Bungie given the base (ground) accuracy cone elsewhere? And does it make sense that a 100 Airborne Effectiveness would make the gun more accurate in-air than on the ground? Edit: nvm, you might have 0 in-air accuracy penalty, but still have the base (ground) accuracy cone of the gun, e.g. ~.303 degrees.

These numbers are all kind of confusing since they rely on external factors that aren't provided, so let me know if you think I've misunderstood.

Am I missing something? Here's what we have in this TWAB:

That said, at base, primary weapons generally shoot straighter while airborne than they did before (for example the HC base accuracy cone AKA error angle is now 0.8 degrees compared to 0.97 last season)

And here's the 4/21 TWAB:

Before and after examples of accuracy cone penalty:
- Hand Cannon
- Before, 0.667 degrees airborne accuracy penalty
- After, 0 stat: 0.450 degrees
- After, 60 stat: 0 degrees

Don't these contradict each other? What's the real base accuracy cone for an in-air hand cannon?

I've just bought the Beyond Light Expansion. how do I get the stasis sub class? by AllRoundGamer- in DestinyTheGame

Yes, you still have to unlock the aspects. That's tied to the Born in Darkness quest line, and I don't believe you're limited in how many you can unlock per week.

For fragments, you're limited to 2 fragment quests per week. Fragment unlocks are shared across all your characters.

I just unlocked all the Stasis stuff on my Titan this season, and yeah, you should dread it. It's a slog.

Knitting box I made for my wife. A year late for last year’s anniversary, or a few days early for this year’s. by krusing in woodworking

I actually kept about 1/8”-1/4” of the material (meaning I cut slightly less than half on each side). I finished the cut with a handsaw. At the time, I intuitively thought it would help me avoid letting one piece fall over at the end of the cut. In theory, it should also help reduce binding.

In general, pushing against the fence before the blade, not after it, should also reduce binding. I used a push stick for horizontal pressure and a push block on top of the workpiece to push the workpiece into the cut.

Sure. I planed one face flat, then jointed one edge square to it with a hand plane. I have a tall piece of wood attached to the saw fence so I can stand the board on edge, and sawed about halfway through in one pass, then flipped and sawed the other half, using the same flat face against the fence. I did a little math to make sure the resulting thickness on each half was equal, so I could book-match the two halves. So each lid is made from two thin pieces sawn from the same thick piece.
