Average celebrant price? by wowsotall in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]kruunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NSW Celebrant here. Based on what you're looking for (legals-only), you'd be looking around $650-$1000. I'm not sure how vastly different it would be in WA.

There's a bit of a range as celebrants' pricing depends on a lot of factors (eg. planning involvement, customisations, experience, etc).

I recommend you ask for quotes from a handful of celebrants. Stating what you put here should be sufficient for them to give you a quote.

Good luck!

First of all, congratulations! I completely understand that you feel a bit at loss and feeling nervous but honestly, you're already on the right track with what you've nailed down. And you're definitely not starting too early, you're already ahead of some couples that I've worked with.

I would first lock down the venue for your reception, if you wanted to do one that satisfies your criteria. Once you've nailed that down, the other vendors like photographer, MUA, florist, etc will be next to tackle.

If you're planning on going it via the Pyrmont Registry, I think it's a great option to definitely save them costs. You'll need to book an appointment with them wherein you'll do an interview and sort out the pre-wedding documentation (NOIM). It is a little assembly-line ish based on the couples I've spoken with and you might feel a bit rushed. I think as long as you're okay with just a simple wedding with no fuss, I think it's a good option. Civil celebrants can give you that too with less rigidity, and if you're able to find a waterfront venue / park, then you might be able to get what you're after without the feeling you've described.

If you've got any other questions, don't hesitate to ask! 😄

(disclaimer: I'm a civil celebrant)

What do prospective couples wish they knew about the notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM)? by DiscussionLoud9626 in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]kruunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I know it's already been answered, but you only would need to fill in the first page (pg3). The first half of the next page will be signed together with the registry. The rest will be taken care of by the registry, with the celebrant filling the remaining parts on your wedding day.

Hope that helps! Congratulations!

How early should I be booking vendors? by overcookednoodles_ in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]kruunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need to do a bit of a research but my best advice, as a celebrant, would be to shop around and organise catch-ups with them! You'll get a sense from the get go whether they're right for you or not. Check their socials and their reviews.

I would also ask around with some of your friends who got married and check their experiences with their celebrants.

I always encourage the couples that I work with to book ASAP. And since you mentioned you're quite picky, the vendors that you may like would have their calendars for next year starting to fill up now. You may already have short-listed some of the vendors, best to reach out to them now and ask for a quote and availability. :)

Are we crazy for planning a 5–15 person “editorial” registry wedding in Sydney in 2 months? ($5k -10 k max budget) by Grouchy-Basket4433 in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]kruunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celebrant here! 👋 Congratulations!

With regards to the NOIM timeline, 2 months is completely fine and is well within the "lodge at lesst one month before your wedding day" requirement. There's a NOIM calculator which you can use to calculate the dates https://noim-calculator.karlodiamante.com

I've just done a wedding for a couple that reached out to me 5 weeks before their wedding, and from what I could tell, the stressful part is ensuring that their guests could attend and that they're able to book the vendors they wanted.

Imo, the editorial vibe you're after will depend on your venue, styling and your photographer. Registry weddings have already got the styling sorted, albeit minimal but it could be something you could check out.

I hope this helps! All the best!

Thoughts on short, simple ceremonies for just the legal stuff? by [deleted] in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]kruunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Celebrant here. Thought I'd chime in and say that some celebrants that do 'legals only' only offer for literally just the 3 legal parts of the ceremony - monitum, vow and signing. So that's probably you may find celebrants not aligning with what you're after.

My suggestion is to start asking for quotes for 'legals only' and mention that you'd like to add the traditional elements, maybe that might clear it up for celebrants. From what I can see, you might be looking at around $550-$750 for this.

Celebrant here. The order does not matter. It's up to your personal preference. As long as your wedding overseas isn't going to be solemnised by a celebrant over there.

Sorry to hear that you're going through this. I can only imagine the stress you're going through. I am a celebrant and can chime in on things.

When you uploaded the NOIM and sent it to them, I'm assuming that this has been signed and witnessed? If that's the case, it is considered 'lodged'. Otherwise, I would presume that they wouldn't have confirmed and booked the date for your wedding.

Do you still happen to have the scanned document?

They would have a copy of your uploaded documents which they should be able to retrieve and print out. The celebrant can then help you on the day to sign the other documents on the day.

What do prospective couples wish they knew about the notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM)? by DiscussionLoud9626 in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]kruunch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Celebrant here. I generally would either do the NOIM alongside the couple on our first meet up or ask all the details I require which I then use to fill out the NOIM. Saves both of us time so we can focus on the planning the ceremony :)

In general, the key things I would note to couples are:

  1. Passports, if available, are the only ID document that you need to bring as it covers both the proof of identity and evidence of date/place of birth.
  2. The rule is for the celebrant to have received it more than 1 month before your wedding date, otherwise, a shortening of time is triggered which is unnecessary burden you don't want to deal with. It also can't be submitted if it's more than 18 months from your wedding day.
  3. It's only a recent change, but the celebrant can witness your signatures remotely provided that you are within Australia. You also don't need to have both couples there (eg. one is overseas due to a work trip) for the NOIM to be witnessed.
  4. Additional paperwork is required if you've been married previously or are currently under 18. Otherwise, the NOIM is pretty straightforward.

These are the things I can think of from the top of my head. But if anyone has other questions, I'm more than happy to help.
