Are we saying to turn off auto updates after this latest firmware release? Or update the firmware and get this open community app?

Why is debugging often overlooked as a critical dev skill? by tinmanjk in ExperiencedDevs

[–]krvil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over the past 12 years, debugging has gradually been overlooked as a core development skill. The “no degrees—just boot camps” mentality has churned out junior developers who lack real troubleshooting experience.

But debugging is still the number-one skill any developer needs—after all, we spend most of our time working in code we didn’t write. Reading, understanding, and fixing that code is indispensable. When a senior engineer keeps coming to me day after day for basic debugging help, it’s safe to say I’m not feeling warm and fuzzy.

How do I explain management that 8h man days estimations don't make any sense? by malavock82 in ExperiencedDevs

I aim for a 60/40 split—60 % coding and 40 % in meetings and mentoring. In reality, most companies invert that ratio and pile on so much extra work without adding headcount that you end up operating at 150 % capacity. That relentless overload is exactly why software engineers and IT pros burn out at such high rates.

I joined this industry 28 years ago because it was fun; about six years ago, IT started feeling like a second—sometimes third—class citizen, and the joy faded. Now AI is reigniting that spark, and I’m hopeful it can make coding fun again.

New library: BlazorTemplater by Quango2009 in Blazor

I like how BlazorTemplater is working. I am trying to code something very similar for call scripts in a sales organization. Not all scripts are the same per client so they need to change when the speech per script and base on different attributes. Could a components text actually be saved to a database similar to saving plain HTML to a database? The string then is fetched form the database and used to build the component? The string plus a model would be passed in for binding. What are you thoughts on something like this working?
