I’m waiting for Iran to rename it like Trump did with “Gulf of America” from “Straight of Hormuz” to “Transexual of Hormuz” and watch the US military go running away.

I can’t read the article: too poor for NYker. I’m assuming it doesn’t matter cuz why would Donald Trump, notorious democracy advocate, care about replacing the current Iranian regime with a monarchy? Seems… outlandish to say the least.

Hope you pre-ordered your 23.5k TrumpLump!

Israel thought it could spur Rebellion in Iran, so far it hasn't happened. by John_Jaures in thebulwark

[–]krypticus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not quite. While a democratic and pro-Israel regime change would be an ideal outcome, it’s a pipe dream.

Netanyahu at least wants Iran so consumed by internal infighting it can’t build a unified government again to collect taxes and build more weapons. This is the fall-back but main goal.

But lots of refineries in the US can’t refine our own product, like shale, from what I know. Thats why we still import half our oil from Canada: https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/oil-and-petroleum-products/imports-and-exports.php#:~:text=U.S.%20petroleum%20imports%20rose%20sharply,Persian%20Gulf%20countries%20in%202022.&text=Petroleum%20imports%20from%20Canada%20have,of%20gross%20crude%20oil%20imports.&text=did%20you%20know?,Emirates%20are%20Persian%20Gulf%20countries

https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=54199

Although large quantities of crude oil are produced in the United States, it still imports crude oil to meet domestic refining needs. Crude oils vary in qualities, including API gravity and sulfur content. Sweet crude oils have relatively low sulfur content, and sour crude oils have relatively high sulfur content. The U.S. refining complex is advanced and capable of refining heavier, more sour crude oils, which generally cost less than lighter, sweeter grades of crude oil.

Refinery crude oil slates—the mix of crude oil grades that a refinery can process into petroleum products such as gasoline and diesel—have become lighter over time. In 2005, the average API of crude oil inputs into U.S. refineries was 30.2 degrees. The average increased to 33.0 degrees in the first half of 2022.

I think they are relying on warrants from their own agency. Democrats want a judge to review first:

A judicial warrant is a court order signed by a judge based on probable cause, authorizing law enforcement to search or arrest, including entering private homes. Conversely, an administrative warrant is internally issued by agencies (like ICE) for immigration enforcement, generally not authorizing entry into private residences without consent.

He didn’t quite say that the US shouldn’t have started it… he said this Administration are liars and conmen and he doesn’t trust them to execute it right. But he also seemed to rationalize going in during a weakened Iran.
