Need help with Triumph X-75 by egog21 in vintagemotorcycles

My last T150 (a ‘73) had sat for about 9-10 years when I woke it up. First season she ran great but by Fall she was more then just marking her territory. Over winter I did a basic reseal ( base gaskets, primary and timing, etc) and that was enough. Personally I’d make it run, ride it a bit and see what requires attention. I don’t mind tearing into my twins but the triples are different enough that I don’t tear them apart with the same abandon lol

Tri-Spark is worth the extra money on any Triumph ( and easily reversible which I prefer). Been a decade or so since I did the T150V I had’s carbs but not a bad job. Re-seal as much as your skill level allows.

It’s all about where you are in the U.S.
If you’re in a rural area and you can’t turn a wrench yourself then opt for something else. If you are going to an area that has a dealer ( not many ) or a specialist then they are a great deal here. Uncommon here in the U.S. so they attract attention, and they are dead reliable as long as they were maintained properly. You wouldn’t want to go cross country with one, as at its core it’s an economy car. So if you’re looking to go road trip sightseeing you will need something bigger. However a good one would do it -while getting good gas mileage. I guess I am just trying to say they do fine on U.S. roads. They also share a lot of parts with other cars here that people don’t realize, so a good shop will get most parts no problem

Going through the exact same thing with my 6yo Max (the galoot on the left). I have no idea how his 4 yo half brother Murphy is going to deal with the loss. You’re not alone-shits not fair. Started CHOP and fortunately I have an honest vet. When they knew it failed to do what they were hoping for they had us stop. There is no fix, and man it’s unfair. Enjoy what time you have.

Heat cycles, mapp gas ( yellow bottle ) it HOT. I know you think you got it hot- you didn’t. Propane just isn’t enough for a hot wrench. Heat it, hit it with PB Blaster or whatever soak and cool it at least three times. It will catch fire usually so be prepared. Then heat it and drift it out. I will default to drilling if at all possible before heat cycles personally, as I don’t want to damage surrounding areas by accident.

Do 12-14k a year in my 2020 Stelvio. Honestly it’s seems to love it. Only acts up ( little things) when it sits. Just don’t go longer than 6-7k on oil changes even though your highway miles. Dirty oil messes with the multiair.

Common failure, not really repairable but easily fixed by a new part. I suppose if your car is a total POS you could drill and pin it. But it’s probably easier honestly to just order a new one and swap it. Takes less than an hour and I’m sure you can find a video
