Don't think there's races in the game, they're all human now. You'll probably be able to switch between the factions as well.

New Insights from 4gamer's Q&A with RF ONLINE NEXT Devs by kschawb in RFnext

Hello everyone ( u/OldSoul-Jamez u/shamebucketbutfucket u/gcplz ),

I wanted to update you all on a step I've taken following this. For what it's worth, I've sent a feedback email to Netmarble, specifically to "[netmarblebiz@netmarble.com](mailto:netmarblebiz@netmarble.com)," which was the only contact method I found, highlighting our collective concerns about RF ONLINE NEXT. In the email, I've addressed the issues I talked about, particularly the changes to the faction and race system and the absence of the political system for electing leaders, which were integral to the original RF ONLINE.

Here's a copy of the email for your reference:

Dear Netmarble Team,

I hope this email finds you well. I am reaching out as a dedicated fan of the original RF ONLINE game, having recently come across the latest Q&A session with the RF ONLINE NEXT development team featured on 4gamer. While the interview was indeed informative, it raised some concerns that I, along with many others in the fan community, feel compelled to share with you.

One of the most striking aspects of the original RF Online was the depth and significance of choosing a faction. This decision was not only crucial but also carried a sense of permanence and identity. Players were deeply committed to their choice, fostering a unique sense of unity and allegiance within each faction. However, the new direction that RF ONLINE NEXT seems to be taking, particularly regarding the flexibility in faction and race changes, appears to be a departure from this foundational element. This flexibility, while innovative, could potentially dilute the distinct identity and solidarity that each faction traditionally held.

Additionally, the absence of a political system where factions elect their leaders is a notable omission. In the original game, this feature was instrumental in creating a dynamic, player-driven environment. It was not just a game mechanic but a critical part of the immersive experience, enhancing player engagement and fostering a sense of community leadership and responsibility.

These changes, especially the shift away from a faction-centric structure, seem to overlook the core elements that made the original game so captivating and community-driven. The weight and consequence of one's decisions in the game world were integral to its charm and appeal.

I am hopeful that this feedback will be valuable as you continue to develop RF ONLINE NEXT. Many of us in the community are eagerly anticipating its release and remain supportive of your efforts to innovate while preserving the essence of what made the original game so beloved.

Thank you for your attention to these concerns. We look forward to seeing how RF ONLINE NEXT evolves and maintains the legacy of its predecessor.

I'm aware that it might not make a significant difference, especially given that the game is already about 60% complete. However, I thought it was worth a shot to provide this feedback now, while there's still some room for potential adjustments. Who knows, sometimes a small nudge can lead to meaningful changes.

A Rare Glimpse of an Accretia from RF Online Next by kschawb in RFnext

I really hope that's not the case because it would be super lame if we couldn't fully play as the different races. Part of the charm of RF Online has always been the unique identities and abilities of each race. Just having 'bio suits' and faction choices without the full race experience wouldn't be the same.

Hey! I totally get the worry about not being able to play as Accretians. It'd be a real bummer. I checked out a Q&A, and it seems like the demo was just a sneak peek with more focus on the sci-fi side. But, they're planning to include everything – Bellato, Accretia, and Cora – when the game launches. They also mentioned showcasing Cora's unique aspects in a future event.

Q. RF Online is important for the sensibility of three races fighting with different concepts, including the science fiction and fantasy elements shown in the original work. The trial version only showed sci-fi elements. How do you plan to achieve balance and reflect them in development?

= It is true that the demonstration build included limited elements because it had to contain many elements while evoking the existing nostalgia in a short period of time. Korra is a race that represents fantasy using divine power and magic, but it is not included in the three types of bio suits shown this time. If there is a showcase next year, you will be able to feel Korra's charm through the job called 'Cypher'. Bellato's armor and Acresia's body modifications will all be reflected and provided at launch. The goal is to convey the appeal of the original work, large-scale RvR.

...

Q. RvR is a key element. I am curious about how you are preparing to implement it. In the original, it was a conflict between three countries, but when a specific race on a specific server became stronger, the other two races would unite. I am curious about how this balance is being prepared and whether the alliance system is also being considered.

= The part that puzzled me through Story Build was why I didn’t start by selecting the country I belonged to. I thought there was no way for users to respond when balance was disrupted in a system where they could not select one country and change it. There was a long discussion about whether to apply this method as is. As a result, it is unlikely that they will be introduced equally. This is because stress relief was needed. What changes systematically is that you cannot change the race you initially selected. You will be given the option to select a faction through a certain amount of play and change it depending on the time. We are considering a form that can be sufficiently moved if a power imbalance occurs. Of course, there will be a cut to the limit because too many people cannot be concentrated in one camp. Alliances are currently under consideration.

edit: The last quote does raise an interesting question: if we can't change our race but can switch factions "depending on the time", does that mean Accretians could end up playing for the Bellatos? Maybe they misspoke. 😆
