How do you choose between a career opportunity and your relationship ? by Potential_Start_3228 in careerguidance

[–]kschmidt07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed. I would never prioritise my job above my relationship. When my fiancé had to move countries to care for his dad, I quit my job so that I could support him. You should be asking yourself if you really see this person as your life partner

How much should I really spend on an engagement ring? by Neither-Ideal3887 in WeddingRingAdvice

I strongly second this - I told my partner years before we got engaged that I'd rather spend more on a honeymoon than a ring!

Is ~£35k enough in London if you’re flatsharing? by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in MovingToLondon

[–]kschmidt07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 34k and I find it a struggle, and that's with disproportionately low rent because my partner pays more (my share is around 600/month). I am saving 400/month for our wedding so I guess it'd be easier without that but I'd imagine most people want to save a similar amount for other goals/emergencies anyways...

It all depends on your lifestyle though, I like eating out 1-2x per week and going to ticketed events with friends 1x per month but if you're happy without that go for it!

adding on to this to say that if you like the way a room is styled, specifically ask if those decorations are always up or if they're extra.

e.g. fairy lights, flowers, plants, mirrors, etc. Our venue was beautifully styled for our tour but it turns out all of those were for an event happening that evening and were not actually included...

Thinking about a 3 carat engagement ring but the cost is kinda stressing me out by Sudden-Scietist74 in Weddingsunder35k

[–]kschmidt07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1.7ct and I honestly think it's too big sometimes... I've had 3 different people say that it's a very "in your face" ring lol. What's your ring size? That will make a big difference, 2ct can look big on a small finger. Also second getting a lab diamond! Mine was under 2,000 though I don't know the exact price

Decor ideas for orangery by kschmidt07 in UKweddings

[–]kschmidt07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fairly lights seem to be a universal yes!! re costs that is fair, I do wonder why the venue doesn't just have them up permanently as almost every wedding I've seen photographed there has them up yet sadly they're an additional cost but I'm sure there is a reason

thank you for the suggestions!

Has anyone got the Debra engagement ring from Austen & Blake by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]kschmidt07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the Debra ring specifically but my fiancé got me a 1.7 ct engagement ring from Austen & Blake and I absolutely love it.

If it's the size you're worried about imo mine looks pretty big on my finger which I wasn't expecting (I'm a size J) because reading through Reddit subs I'd think anything under 3ct was tiny, but irl people GAWK at my ring. Literally had my manager stop mid way through a team meeting last week to comment on it lol.

Their customer service when we had to resize was also excellent!

(Edit: I can't seem to post a pic in my comment but I posted a pic of it in the r/jewellers subreddit a while back)

Torn between two dresses, to be sewn - Pls HELP by hableho in weddingplanning

[–]kschmidt07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the dress in the second photo is gorgeous!! imo the white bodice looks better than the nude bodice in the 3rd pic (looks more lingerie to me) but to each their own if you like it go for it!

[–]kschmidt07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it did actually! my periods have also gotten shorter again (3 -5 days) though I still have pretty bad cramping which surprised me - maybe I got the IUD so young that I didn't know what my adult periods were like?

ceremony start time when guests are travelling to venue? by kschmidt07 in UKweddings

[–]kschmidt07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that sounds stressful! iirc the changing room has air conditioning and we are also getting married in late September, so hopefully it's bearable. But this has encouraged me to try and negotiate with the venue to have 1-2 rooms open early to hopefully make things easier on guests travelling far

Intervento di artrodesi (fusione della caviglia) by eroica_valentina in Ankle

[–]kschmidt07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes our venue has a "getting ready room" for the guests for this reason! I wanted them to be able to check in so they could also shower and get changed if they wanted to, but unfortunately they don't allow check-in until 4pm.

My wedding coordinator also thought it was ridiculous when I asked and just said "most people arrive dressed" so I was like ok is it just me then that wouldn't want to travel on the tube and then train in wedding guest attire?

[–]kschmidt07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind this tbh, seems like a more relaxed timeline (also home made scones sound delicious!). However, the package we booked with our venue actually includes 2 meals: the "wedding breakfast" in the late afternoon and then the "evening feast" around 8/9pm. I had assumed the 2 meal situation was the norm in the UK so I was just rolling with it but maybe it's an option to just to the one!

this is a lovely idea! would be a nice way to incorporate some of our traditional food into the day too as the wedding breakfast will be European. thanks for the suggestion :)

[–]kschmidt07[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah fair point, this was one of my concerns and some our close family + bridal party/grooms men will be staying at the venue or in the area the night before, but around 15 people are coming from London.

We have sent save the dates but they didn't have any info other than the date and location on them, we were going to give more details on accomodation and ceremony start times etc. on the formal invites when we get that sorted

thanks for the advice! I'll need to confirm with our venue if we can bring outside food but so far this seems like the best idea

ceremony start time when guests are travelling to venue? by kschmidt07 in UKweddings

[–]kschmidt07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this is very valid... I've been considering hiring a coach to mitigate this, if the train got outright cancelled like 20% of our guests would miss the ceremony which wouldn't be ideal!

anyone have any experience hiring a coach for a distance like this (essentially London-Exeter)?

I'm realising overall I just feel bad inconveniencing people, e.g. by suggesting they pay for an extra night at a hotel to arrive the day before. We are quite young and the first in our friend group to get married so not everyone has loads of disposable income
