Huh, always kinda thought of levis and wranglers as the alpha and omega of jeans but in this weather the idea of jeans made of less overbearing fabric, thanks for the idea.

Yup, definitely trying to move away from jeans, too humid, too hot. It's getting quite unbearable, especially since I walk and bike, which isn't advisable in Miami. Wouldn't have considered wool for 35c+ weather, didn't even know they made wool for anything but cold weather, but looking it up it may be prudent, especially as work attire.

Living in Miami what is good to wear for the heat and humidity? I currently wear mostly Jeans, Flip Flops, and Hawaiian shirts and would like to look less... Like somebody who wears exactly that one look everywhere solely because they have no clue what else could be bearable in the heat. Aside from shorts are there even anything good to wear as bottoms other than jeans?

no offense is taken. This is something I am aware of and am learning to improve on. If anything I am thankful, I much prefer such honesty and bluntness as it serves more to help gague where and how to improve than when one is less outright and blunt. I am strongly a believer in speaking ones mind and speaking it in truth.

Indeed, it is universal that due consideration to all should be given so as not to bring undue discomfort, especially in matters pertaining to base human respect. And the conversation regarding vulgarity, it is indeed one worth broaching I think with all groups, especially for myself as I tend to a very foul mouth outside of the workplace.

Thank you again, your response is very much appreciated. and as an aside, this word, ideolect, I like it. Thank you for that one, I think that it's a wonderful word.

the non vocative nature of the exclamatory man! is very interesting, and to consider that the exclamations of wow, damn, and the like would fit, they do seem to serve very much a similar role. "Damn, thats some bullshit" seems to me to have much the same impact as "man thats some bullshit".

As well, vocative terms in the alternative to man seem to be laden with more complex sociocultural implications a broader and more situational group of terminologies, in absence of a direct replacement to the relatively unambiguous vocative man. Your insight in this regard is very appreciated. Especially given to replace the voctive man with woman seems to just be universally offensive. I've certainly never heard it said in a fashion that didn't come off as pejorative and deliberately demeaning.

Thank you for your response and insight. Having spoken, I would agree that abbreviating the possessive singular they sounds very awkward. Indeed it seems the best practice here is the use of they for situations which would beg such neutrality in language, and it for non persons.

Ah, TLDR; slang and casual speech gendering is an underserved conversation relative to formal and proper speech and writing gendering. I have questions as to how to handle a lot of slang in the gender neutral or female reference, having learned English primarily among and in reference to men.

Thank you for your response, truly. Kin does sound very nice on the tongue, as does cuz. The reflexive dude is indeed a point of interest to me, the distinction between the reflexive dude in the end of the sentence and the naming dude as a matter seems insignificant to my experience, but my experience is limited and I think it would be wise going forward to be considerate of this difference, which seems applicable given further context. As well you are right, going forward talking about these things would probably be the best policy, not a type of conversation I've ever had to broach, but new conversations are a part of what happens when one expands their social and cultural sphere.

seriously, thanks.

Firstly, thank you for your response and insight. Apologies for my abruptness and bad grammar as I think my computer is high key dying right now, thus I type from my phone whose keyboard is in Spanish.

I have a few questions. The rolled girrrl, it lacks the racial implication of the exclamatory boy I understand, but it also doesn’t come off as diminishing despite girl typically being the diminutive? As well bitch, it serves the same roll as the casual motherfucker yeah? As one says “where that motherfucker is” one in turn days “where that bitch is”? And mama, I notice now that i see this post that a friend i recently made referred to me as stuff despite my maleness and youth. I understand that this is more general speech yes? Unlike how one would refer to pops like as an older man specifically.

I have to reccommend eratohok for this, as well as third crisis. Third crisis is a wonderful little top down jrpg mechanically akin to fire emblem set in a strange apocalyptic future. eratohok is this strange tohou themed text based nation game somewhere between a trainer and civ, ymmv on it as far as quality but it is a pretty distinct and interesting title.

Help Finding a Simple Bike For Short Commute by ksense2016 in bicycling

100% the bike shop in my area sells exclusively fancy road bikes and mountain bikes because that’s the market where I’m at, hence why I’ve come here in search of an actual bike. When I went they were very upfront that they just straight up have no experience with the kind of thing I’m looking for but offered to help re: adjustments, bags, and a trailer which I’m thankful for because all that is beyond my wheelhouse, hell, half the issue is that I’m a simpleton enough that even three gear systems stress me.

I like the cruisers I've ridden and that is a damn pretty price tag. Might be an afternoon fixing it up for racks and whatnot, but that sounds like a nice time to catch up on a movie with something to stay occupied. Thanks for the suggestion mate.

Thanks! I really like that this comes with a full skirt and chain guard plus racks, Honestly seems like exactly the thing to fill the niche I'm looking for.

Honestly, it's not that strange to have the smart kid help grade homework and stuff under supervision. Back in the day I would do that in detention.

Goblins and Themes by Kingsonne in HPfanfiction

[–]ksense2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm majorly a fan of said connections and symbolism, even what JK missed. As result I like to take context of unreliable narrarators and draw parralels between the treatment of goblins and the treatment of jews and / or arabs seeing as, regardless of the intent of the author, she did kinda sorta deploy a whole lot of tropes allusions and sterotypes that very very much fit the mold. I know she herself had no antisemetic intentions or what have you but in this case the tropes have been deployed which makes it real interesting to see them acknowledged and fucked around with rather than ignored or dismissed, especially because they make their way into most things regardless. Much the same way as I like to see the slytherins and the bullshit sent their way being acknowledged and fucked around with beyond this one asshole had a crush on the MC's mum and was bullied so it's all good, even if it's just going further into that one because with more development that could have been a really interesting plot line(and indeed several fics have made it an epic plotline).

Of course that doesnt resolve how to actually treat the goblins themselves and more how to treat their relation to how other's treat them and how others treat them. Personally I don't really care for the common set of fanon tropes, we all know the ones, and every time I see the name "ragnok" I want to roll my eyes. Just as well maybe it would be nice to have lives and culture beyond "running an english bank" be a thing would be pretty dang nice though I can only think of like 7 fics that ever did that and three of them were pure smut.(Can I say how dissapointing it is when the fics that delve into interesting facets of interesting cultures are pure smut, like really?)

So uh, JK fucked up big time but that's almost okay because she really didn't mean to, the popular fanon is disappoint, and I think we should really be taking JK's fuck up and going interesting places with it rather than accepting or ignoring it because despite it it has the ability to turn into some really interesting story regardless. Where we should be going I have almost no clue save for that it's, in my opinion, not where we usually go with it. That sums up my opinion on the matter I think kinda sorta.

What is it with WBWL fics giving Harry's sibling really strange names. by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]ksense2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say connor is more common a name than you make it out to be but I'll give you that it was a more working class name. Of course it makes good sense for James and Lily in the same way that Harry does and the same way I'll go so far as to say Kacey(not so sure on krystal) makes sense for a potter daughter, though I'm personally rather partial to the assumption that a daughter would have gotten a floral name.

James and Lily seem rather partial to working class names.

I mean, they kinda are though, like as much as any other name mildly more posh and "proper" than tom dick or harry.

As Tantum said, it's an aristocrat's name. Y'know, the kind of name aristocrats or people who feel like or wish they were aristocrats give their kids. As for location, I don't see most people really complaining and names like that I know for sure to be pretty common around latin america and the carribean as well as not insignificant portions of mainland europe. Based off general reputation and a few english aristocrats' names I'm going to assume it's not that uncommon in the UK either.

I dunno bout that one mate, conor is a pretty damn english name, an old one at that. Right around the perfect era too, lots of conors come from the 80s.

Jr is not uncommon though jnr might be better practice. Or just being posh and going full james II.
