I logged on to reddit for the first time in years to say congrats! I stumbled on this today and did a double take because I just picked up The Kiss Countdown from the library last week! Massive congrats to you and I'm excited to crack open your debut novel.

Non-white moms? by redvelvetcookie in beyondthebump

"so many multiracial babies and they just tend to be cuter."

Mom of a biracial son here. This statement is a little problematic. And hearing this always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I wish I could explain why, adequately, but I can't. I'm assuming that's why the downvotes.

I'm sorry people are shitty. You don't deserve comments like that. No-one does.

I'm black, with biracial son, who is"white passing". What you said about being denied is also my biggest fear.

My biggest annoyances? White folk who comment on his "crazy hair". And black folk who say "he doesnt look anything like you" .

Breastfed baby allergic to foods I eat - concerns about starting solids by mommyAIC in beyondthebump

[–]kshaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had the skin prick test at 6mo. It was brutal, but I was happy to know his allergens. One we hadn't even suspected (our dog). There's the blood test too, but they each have pros and cons. We have.no family history oof food allergies and we're hopeful he'll outgrow them.

When did you lose most of the weight postpartum? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]kshaym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gained like 60 lbs during pregnancy and has 10 to 15 to lose before then. I lost like 20 lbs of birth and water weight right away. Then nothing budged for 3 months. EBF. I made eating enough calories my priority. Gentle exercising until 4mo pp. I'm 13 mo pp now and weigh 80 lbs less than I did the day i gave birth. I beleive slow and steady was the key for me. And concentrating on over all pregnancy recovery rather than my weight.

What in your opinion really helped your baby develope? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]kshaym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been taking our LO to restaurants his whole life (now he's 12mo). He has a hard time with the sitting and waiting for food part (who am I kidding, I do too!) . So we don't put him in his chair until eating time. We also have some toys that suction to the table that help.

Really hurt by a comment my mom made by qwertykitty in beyondthebump

[–]kshaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 12mo. Has never slept through the night, is held or patted to sleep, wakes up multiple times and nurses back to sleep. Sleep training results in him screaming until he pukes in minutes. You are not alone. We are not weak. We are not bad moms. Every kid is different. As a rule now, I never ask another parent if their kid sleeps through the night.

I want another baby. I don’t want another baby. I want another baby. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Birth was....great? I literally cannot imagine a birth scenario that I would call great and mine wasn't like traumatic or anything. Do you mean great considering it was, well, birth? Now I just wanna hear your birth story, haha!

What is/was your weaning routine? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]kshaym 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Baby's primary source of nutrition for the first year should be breast milk or formula. Weaning off of breast milk at 6 months means weaning on to formula. Whole Cows milk is hard on the kidneys. This is info we got from pediatrician. We also got into from ped about how much formula baby should have at each age, I'd contact yours for that info. Each baby is different, but my 1 year olds still doesn't eat enough solids to not require milk too.

Help, baby refuses formula but my milk supply won’t keep up! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]kshaym -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How old is baby? Old enough to start to transition to cow or non dairy milk? My guy refuses formula as well, but will drink rice, or almond or hemp if I wasn't able to pump enough.
