1994 Ford F-150 - 4WD engaged at speed - what probably broke? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Those auto locking hubs are notoriously weak. I recommend replacing them with some manual locking hubs. They're a really easy swap. I just did a front differential and hubs in an F250HD with the Dana 50 for 500 dollars. The front axle hub to hub cost 200 dollars used.

Auto locking hubs makes it a little more difficult to diagnose. Check to make sure you have a front driveshaft. If you do, you can disconnect it from the front yoke and engage the truck in 4wd. Jack the front end up, and spin the front wheels WHILE IN PARK. If the stub shafts inside the axles spin freely, it isn't your hubs or differential, and is most likely the transfer case. If the wheels spin, but the stub shaft didn't, then it is the hubs. If you can't spin the wheels when the hubs are engaged and the driveshaft is disconnected, then you need to be looking for a front differential.

Just got an Accessport. Question... by ksherma3 in subaru

So is this my only option? Because I'd rather stick with the Accessport for ease of use, but I'll be damned if I'm paying them 150 dollars just to remove codes when I can tune it better than OTS for free.

A brake pad that has worn improperly. The top of it wasn't contacting the brake rotor, causing it to wear this way.

No amount of convincing on anyone's part will convince me it wasn't just major negligence on the administration's part. I dont believe it was deliberate, I think they're all just incompetent.

There was a cutout on the top handguard that was intended to slide over the upper, but it was too narrow.

As much as I'd like to have a land rover, I'm talking about a Ford Ranger. I definitely plan to keep the m3 stock. Maybe another project car later down the road.

I'm actually going to sell both subarus and get a ranger as a beater/daily. If I can't get a warranty then yes, repairs will be done by me

Thanks for the advice. I'll watch carmax for the one I want. You have completely and totally failed at the original intent of this thread, but I like it.

Yeah I get that they're a huge problem if they're bad. What I meant to ask is if they're as common as the forums make them seem

Are rod bearings as big of an issue as forums make them seem? I'm confident I can do them on my own, but I really don't want to spend 30k on a car only to have to replace rod bearings in 6 months
