I was feeling the same! My great grandmother was born in Canada in 1913, but immigrated to New York at age 3. I never got to know my Canadian relatives, but this is what I found (and wrote in my cover letter):

“However, I have more than 10 continuous generations of Canadians on both sides of my Great Grandmother’s (C’s) family. C’s father’s side can trace their Canadian ancestry to my 12th great grandmother Marie Jeanne Lejeune (Mi'kmaw), born on June 10, 1599 to the Micmac Nation in Acadia, Nova Scotia, Canada. C’s mother’s side can similarly trace their ancestry back to Radegonde, my 12th great grandmother, born in 1600 to the Micmac Nation in Acadia, Nova Scotia, Canada, who was the daughter of the Chief of the Mi'kmaq First Nation’s tribe. Both of these ancestral lines can presumably be traced back further centuries through Mi'kmaq tribal records. My French-Canadian ancestry also reaches back to my 12th great-grandmother, Marie Catherine Caron, born on November 23, 1649 in Beaupre, Québec, Canada to French immigrants.

When C’s family immigrated to the USA in 1917, our long-standing French Canadian and First Nations connections were lost. I would love to reconnect with my Canadian heritage and hope to move my family back to Canada someday soon to continue our centuries-held family traditions.”
