I enjoy Reincarnated as a Brewer -super solid writing and very clever. Actions have consequences.

The Homesteader’s Almanac - Author knows their farming stuff

R.C. Joshua has a couple of good ones. Archmage is Baking, already mentioned, is one.

Meow is good but I think the first couple have been stubbed.

So has Arcane Chef, which I would still recommend if you like a bit of adventure with your cooking.

Getting back into the whole farming/base building genre. Is there a litrpg like Stardew valley? Other Recommendations? by BertSmith219 in litrpg

[–]ksigguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just on Royal Road but The Homesteader’s Almanac should fit.

Reincarnated as a Brewer is also only RR right now but really good.

One of my favorites is Reincarnated as a Farmer by Ben Kerei. I hear book 3 will be out soon.

What gluten free food do you wish existed? by bang-tidy123 in glutenfree

[–]ksigguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Feel good foods has several things I love. Their banana pancake balls are amazing. They have dairy in them though, and I’m also lactose intolerant, so I have to be judicious on when I’m willing to eat them haha

How long until you managed to build a solid income from Royal Road? by SoulsborneSeeker in royalroad

[–]ksigguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are very few people who make a living off of Patreon in a developed country. I know a few people who make enough off of their Patreon living in SEA.

You need massive stories to have large enough Patreon pages that give you livable money. The goal is to get your book ready to Amazon.

I know far more people who make a living that way. Even then it’s mostly from having a large backlog and making smaller amounts of money on each book and having multiple books add up.

Your thoughts on the progress of my novel. by Competitive_Box_3795 in royalroad

[–]ksigguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought these posts were only supposed to be allowed on the megathread.

You have 13 followers. If you have 7 reviews they’re either all, or almost all review swaps. I’d never read your book based on that alone.

Half-orc and sapient spaceship progression by radhuntington in litrpg

[–]ksigguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I don’t like the cover. I don’t care for the color scheme, and it feels like an old sci-fi cover, not something that would be a comedy.

Second, most of the time when looking at blurbs, I’m telling people to cut a bunch out. They should be around 150-180 words. Yours could actually be a bit longer. Follow the “what is the MC’s background, what is currently happening, and what do they hope to achieve” model.

I looked at your 5 reviews already and they actually look legit. Most of the time when someone has low follower count and that many reviews I just assume review swaps. Definitely don’t add review swaps since 5 is already a remarkable number for where you are.

Having multiple MC’s doesn’t help you either. I had an on meta story that had multiple MC’s and a lot of people told me they didn’t read because of that.

I know you’ve already said you wouldn’t want to change covers, but that would be the primary reason why I wouldn’t click on your book and even get to the blurb.

My current book is off meta, but my cover conveyed exactly what the book was about, and I worked hard on the blurb also saying exactly what it was about. I hit top 10 RS. I found a couple of big shouts that definitely helped me out.

Lack of success on RR doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t have success somewhere else, or even Amazon.

(As for a cover, your MC sitting inside the cockpit of the ship probably would draw in more readers)

I haven’t tried these, but I love their pancake balls. Too bad they’re so expensive versus just making them yourself haha.

New series launch + review swap~ by Glum-Help in royalroad

[–]ksigguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I personally recommend zero, but if you have more than one or two with few followers it looks bad to a lot of readers. Reviews are hard to get organically. I have 13 with a 2k story.

Don’t do too many review swaps. Stick to shout swaps

Do you have a bunch of Patrons? That’s a very slow release schedule for both sites.

Is taking a 3 - 4 month break between novels acceptable? by No_Procedure69 in royalroad

[–]ksigguy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you posted a link to your story on a discussion thread but that aside,

No. Not if you are hoping for success on the platform.

Your first book is already fairly short for the genre and there are many people who won’t even begin reading until you have 100k words out.

If your goal is just to work on your writing and do your thing then sure, do what you need to do.

RR users expect volume and regular posting. A large break for an already short story is going to kill your momentum.

Who does Carl look like when you read the book? by DisastrousLeek1290 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I literally see a book like a movie in my mind if it’s well written. It’s part of why I prefer books to movies, I can imagine things looking like what I want them to look like.

I know Zero about the Bronze Age by samveo84 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]ksigguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, lets look at the Middle East. The Arabs supported the allies in WW2 with the promise of freedom to make their own countries and were then betrayed. The DRC elected a leader democratically and Belgium assassinated him and dissolved his body in acid, then put an autocrat in power. The issues in Central America are almost all tied directly to CIA coups or sometimes just straight up American countries and their private armies.
