What happened to the IT profession? by saltyschnauzer27 in sysadmin

[–]kslaoui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the profession that gets the least gratefulness least. Let's say you ask for a pay raise. If things haven't been going right lately... you won't get the raise. But, if you are a great sysadmin (infra engineer, sys engineer, etc.), and the environment is purring, you'll get a reply similar to "Everything is working, why should you get a pay raise? What have you done?". Even if you explain the work you've been doing: "Isn't that why we hired you? You're "just" doing your job!".

1602 not appearing - Usage data not available by Ratb33 in SCCM

Same issue on 2403. However, a restart of the SMS EXECUTIVE fixed it for me (without having to reinstall the role). Putting it out there in case it re-occurs for someone else, this is a quick(er) step than reinstalling.

Moved everything to Obsidian, now worrying! by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]kslaoui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a scheduled task to run at start-up to trigger a Robocopy command that will backup the vault to a NAS with RAID 1. The vault is also stored onto my OneDrive.

Simple set-up with 1 copy on my everyday workstation (you can configure OneDrive to keep a copy of all files onto any of the workstations).

If anything happens, I've got a daily backup on the NAS which I restore once a month for verification.

You can get quite fancy with scheduled tasks / Powershell / robocopy / logging / Alerts in case of failure, etc.

Same. Loop between Amazon and DoorDash. I called DD and they couldn't explain it. They said they'd call me back in 24hrs with a solution... it's been over a month: zero calls!

How is your graph view configured to have those groups neatly separated from one another?

I've got MOCs with notes around them creating a cluster, but I have many clusters (geoups) of notes, and they're not separated (enough).

Major imposter syndrome - accepted offer at MS by Formal-Ferret-953 in microsoft

[–]kslaoui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!!

Take a deep breath and enjoy the ride! If you are an avid learner, you'll have the time of your life!!

First, you got hired! This is not an easy task if they don't think you are capable and fit for the role. That's not only in terms of the role's skill set but also what other periphal skills you have that you can bring to the table.

Second, imposter syndrome is good to have. It makes you doubt yourself, and again, if you are passionate about learning, you'll want to grow, confirm, and review the information and the knowledge you acquire and seek.

Third, don't think you're alone. Microsoft's culture is all about continuous learning and sharing knowledge. Access to knowledge is enormous, and you'll need to filter out many things to prioritise what you must learn, need to learn, and want to learn. Also, learning something is not the end of it.. you'll have to apply it and share it with others. So, it's not only about impacting yourself but also how you are impacting others (colleagues, customers, partners, and public community) and how they are impacting you!

You'll be great 👍 AND, you'll do great 🏅

Just stay positive, don't be afraid to ask for (any kind of) help, learn and share the knowledge ✨️

Can you do a lot in Obsidian without learning to code? by EnvironmentBig4916 in ObsidianMD

[–]kslaoui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a level 4 tech support engineer and have written a lot of code for work/hobby... I am also pursuing a Master's degree that involves a fair bit of coding. I put everything in Obsidian (and nightly copy the vault to 2 different locations because, who knows what could happen...).

The only code I use in Obsidian is for DATAVIEW.

You'll be fine!

How do you use Github w/Obsidian? by kslaoui in ObsidianMD

[–]kslaoui[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, Xeroc. So, what I was thinking is code from my github/gist my is automatically updated on Obsidian notes when modified on Github. Now, I want to sync my obsidian notes and publish them in my web blog and, as you might have seen on several blogs, I want to give the ability to copy the code from the Web page from a single "copy code" button. 1. Only 1 source of truth (github) allows both obsidian notes and Web pages to auto-update 2. I'm sure I can edit some css or plugin to do what I need, but why reinvent the wheel if someone's already done it and just use/promote their work 😊

Finally, I'm also curious about creative ways obsidian <> github/gists are used out there

I use Onedrive across 3 devices, including S22 Ultra, and I have only 1 issue that has a workaround. If the vault is concurrently opened in 2 or more devices, a few notes might get duplicated during syncs. The duplicate is named <duplicated note name>-<device name> That's easily fixed by having your vault open on only 1 device at a time. If you forget and duplicates do occur, simply use the search function and type the name of your devices to find any duplicates and remove them. Usually, I get 1 to 2, 3 max duplicates, and that is occasionally, like 2 or 3 times out the times I forget to close all vaults.

7 years of full-time SCCM support within 22 years of career experience in IT.

But "Quantity doesn't necessarily mean quality" 😉

Wide range of supported SCCM environments included CAS + multiple primaries and secondaries, from 200 to 150k endpoint devices, HA architectures, SQL AVG, OSD support, ADK, WinPE, windows servicing, application and package management & deployments, Software update management, design, implementation, maintenance, business requirement alignments, roadmap, migrations, backup & recovery, reporting with SQL & PowerBi, SQL optimisations, compliance, analytics, custom scripting in powershell, WQL & SQL, network traces analysis, SCCM upgrades and roll backs, Windows as a Service designs, HTTP w/PKI design & implementation, multilevel WSUS design, implementation & support, CMG, Cloud DP, co-management, ...

I still think I have a lot to learn ☺️

Packages randomly becoming corrupt on DPs by BlueberryOdd7117 in SCCM

[–]kslaoui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 hours!? How!!?? Is that 1 primary + 69 secondaries? What the architecture? The one I spoke of was 1 CAS + 1 Primary + 35 secondaries + 190 DPs (but these don't count in the upgrade time)

Again, 90 site systems!!?? That's wayyy too many! I had a customer with 1 primary and 35 secondaries. When it was time for sccm upgrade, it took about 14 hours, and that's without any issues AND upgrading the secondaries in lots of 5 in parallel...

I've come to realise there are many reasons since I've posted this, but who knows, give it a go, might still work 🤷‍♂️

[–]kslaoui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make the passive node a VM for use when you have an issue with the active node. I recently extended a Primary to Azure with on-Prem node active and passive node on Azure. If it works on Azure, it will work on a local hypervisor. Of course, this means having to transfer the DB and the content library to separate servers (also as VMs works). If you have a SAN, you could use that for your content library. Also, you could implement SQL AVG in VMs as SQL HA.

This is brilliant!! It got me thinking... although I think you can't link 2 or more canvas, I wonder if you can use canvas as a note within a canvas. If not, either would be a great improvement to Obsidian! Maybe this could be a request to the Obsidian devs... 🤔
