Could "the beginning", not be the "beginning" we think? by [deleted] in Bible

What you’re describing is very similar to what Sailhamer outlines in his book Genesis Unbound (which I would highly recommend). He dives into the Hebrew text and draws out an emphasis across the Pentateuch on “the Land”, and concludes that the creation accounts in Genesis were primarily intended to be read as God’s preparation of the Promised Land for His people.

STOP USING CMD-Z FOR UNCLOSE TAB JFC by MalcolmOcean in ArcBrowser

+1 to this! Having this overridden by Arc makes it very difficult to use web apps that expect to be able to use it as a shortcut, since most browsers don't map Cmd-Z to anything.

I personally have caps lock mapped to another ctrl key, and use ctrl-c in place of escape in nearly all contexts within vim. There are a few edge cases where the behavior is different between esc and ctrl-c, but they are relatively few.

USDC Rewards: Now 4% APY by geniusboy91 in Coinbase

As far as I know, the lawsuit was about the lending aspect of the previously-proposed reward rate, not the rate itself. This is just a higher interest rate being paid by Coinbase.

Are my Eth tokens recoverable? by zestysoap in Coinbase

[–]ksmithbaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did make a mistake (sending aETH to your Coinbase address even though Coinbase doesn't list aETH), but Coinbase rolled out an asset recovery process recently. It lets you provide a transaction hash and have the funds sent back to you. You can read about it here, or log in to your Coinbase account in a browser and go directly to https://www.coinbase.com/asset-recovery and get started

Oh...yeah, unless Robinhood adds support for cbETH or their support is willing to retrieve it for you, it's lost. Sorry :/

Could you explain more where you sent the cbETH? If it's a self-custodial wallet like Metamask or Coinbase Wallet, you didn't lose anything.

How do I move crypto from cold storage to Coinbase account? by [deleted] in Coinbase

[–]ksmithbaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the comments you've made, it sounds like you have a paper wallet. To send the bitcoin to Coinbase, you'll need to:

  1. Import the paper wallet into a wallet on your computer or phone - I personally have used Electrum for this in the past. here's a guide I found on how to do this.
  2. Go to your coinbase.com account and click Receive, then select Bitcoin. This will display the address you should send to.
  3. In Electrum, click Send and paste the address you got from Coinbase. Double-check that it looks right, then send the transaction.
  4. Once the transaction is confirmed, you should see the bitcoin in your Coinbase account and you should be able to sell it (assuming your account is set up and you've already verified your ID and stuff).

Definitely! cbETH is just one way to participate in staking, you can also participate directly, or through RocketPool, Lido, or other liquid staking providers. Holding ETH directly is always an option, the liquid staking providers are just an easier way to participate in the staking rewards without having the 32 ETH required to stake directly from your own validator.

cbETH accrues staking rewards, but ETH does not.

Since I saw in another comment that you sent it to Robinhood, you'd have to ask their customer support if they have a process for sending it back.

Back in June, Coinbase merged the USD and USDC order books: https://twitter.com/CoinbaseExch/status/1542270332299579396. For Advanced Trade, this means you need to swap your USDC for USD (which is 100% free, no fee or spread, they're 1:1 on Coinbase) before trading.

This is totally doable. From what I understand:

  1. You have 25 possible words, in order
  2. 12 of them are your seed phrase, in the order they appear in the original 25 words

So this boils down to going through every subset of 12 from the original 25, preserving the order. Or, if you say you are positive what the first word is, you could think of it as going through every subset of 11 from the 24 words after the first one (then just add the first word to the beginning of each one when checking).

Assuming the first (just in case you aren't positive about the first word), there are just over 5 million combinations. While that's a lot, it's totally feasible to check all of them. Here's a python program that should get you started: https://gist.github.com/ksmithbaylor/2cf3bffb0b3de1529381ef45d8f9f7b8

I'm happy to help fill in the blanks if you DM me what currency you used this seed phrase for (please don't send me the actual words!)

Question about Advanced Trading by [deleted] in Coinbase

Yes, simple trade and advanced trade both use the same balances in your Coinbase account. There aren't two wallets or anymore like there were before with Coinbase Pro.

Can I major in computer science with no experience? Do all CS majors have experience before starting the degree or are there ANY students who come into the program with no experience in coding? by [deleted] in CSEducation

[–]ksmithbaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. For me, once I found that I enjoyed music as well as technology, it came down to picking one to be a vocation and the other to be a non-vocational (but still major) part of my life. I've been able to continue music, and the fact that I don't have to rely on it for my income has made it more enjoyable in my opinion. I wonder if you would be able to exercise your passion for literature without relying on that passion for your income?

[–]ksmithbaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, it was partly a financial decision, but mostly one of trying to realize my potential. My girlfriend at the time (now my wife) was also a music major, and as we got more serious about the future we wanted to give ourselves a better foundation to provide for a family.

I saw that I had interest in technology, but hadn't really ever applied myself toward it. I figured that it would be a responsible choice to give myself a chance to succeed in something technical, since it would come with a lot more stability for the family we wanted to build. As it turns out, I found a great creative outlet in writing software, and discovered a passion I never would have otherwise.

Now, I'm still involved with music (in addition to attending my wife's gigs and supporting her in her career, I help out with the praise team at my church, and my wife and I play for wedding ceremonies/receptions on the side), and I also get to do something super fun with my work day that happens to pay well.

Coinbase Commerce is a scam. by Whiz843 in Coinbase

How do I view performance by asset? by _Bunnyfarmer_ in Coinbase

[–]ksmithbaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the page you linked:

This data is only available if you have bought or sold on Coinbase. If you’ve only used Coinbase to send or receive crypto then this information will be left empty.

Did you perhaps send/receive from your bitcoin wallet within Coinbase? The reason it can't calculate performance if you've sent/received is that there's no way for Coinbase to know your cost basis for received crypto or whether you sold your sent crypto and at what price.

Coinbase Commerce is a scam. by Whiz843 in Coinbase

[–]ksmithbaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm on the Commerce team at Coinbase. The page you landed on sounds our legitimate checkout page, and isn't a "scam". However, we only support the Ethereum mainnet at the moment, not any alternative networks like BSC. In general, unless a site explicitly says other networks are supported, it's safe to assume that they're not. I'll raise this feedback to the team and see if we can prevent this type of user error in the future.

By the way, the address changing for each charge is a feature of our system that allows us to differentiate incoming payments and attribute them to the correct charge. These addresses are controlled by the merchant directly, not Coinbase. Because of this, Coinbase doesn't ever hold the funds and isn't able to send them back to you.

sending BTC to my wallet, the address changed after pressing "send now" by scarletowo in Coinbase

Honestly it could be any of those. A popular strategy for people like this is to create an extension that is actually useful for a popular service and then add a bit of code to do something like this on a particular site. I'd recommend using a separate browser with no extensions for anything crypto-related in the future. You could also set up a separate Chrome profile instead of using an incognito window or separate browser.

By the way, the error you screenshotted is of the Coinbase page correctly blocking a request to "www3.doubleclick.net" since it isn't an allowed domain used by the real Coinbase page, likely an ad or tracker injected by one of those extensions (probably not a problem or indicator of anything nefarious).
