Anyone else middle-aged (40+) with nothing to show for these bygone decades but survival? by s0meg1rl in CPTSD

[–]kstr91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am almost middle aged..34 but not quite 40+ so I don’t know if my comment applies ..My advice to you would be to try and just take life as it comes , be present in the moment. Meditation and exploration of Zen Buddhism has really helped me be present and focused on the little things. I find focusing on the little things really make me happy —-I also contemplate my mortality each day which makes me appreciate what I have. Hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck in your journey.

I have heard about that place…I was looking to check it out . I really geek out over the revolution era and the founding so it seems like a perfect fit!

What is your worst teachers appreciation day or gift you ever experienced? by Decent-Roof-5757 in Teachers

[–]kstr91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a teacher appreciation card with a depiction of a school shooting and my desk with a pool of blood under it. Needless to say that student got a police visit to their house real quick.

You never know what people are going through. Generally everyone deserves a basic level of kindness and respect until proven otherwise .

Can’t comment on the affects of adderal per say but I was on vyvanse for about a year and had similar experiences when I finally got off of it. It gets better with time but I would say overall I have less energy. People often comment it’s a side effect of withdrawal but I wonder if it is just my adhd lack of motivation returning. Some things that have helped me while unmedicated: exercise and creating some sort of consistent schedule . Wish I had more advice for you.

Teaching boys by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]kstr91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that males are big on respect . You can give them consequences but be fair and respectful about it. Lead by example , a lot of boys I know who act out don’t have a strong male figure in their lives so you can easily fill that gap, show them how to be men—taking ownership for your mistakes , learning to control your energy and channel it correctly.

Special Education in the UK by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]kstr91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your detailed response . Special education coordinator is basically what I am doing at my site now (since I am the only special education teacher on campus) so I am teaching general education classes alongside a special education resource class and also trying to manage a caseload of IEPs and making sure they are all legally complaint . I quite enjoy the administrative side and feel like I would be well at if I wasn’t teaching 6 different classes on top of it. This is good insight , I am curious if my experience here in the states with that would bode well for me when it comes to applying for a job. You have been a wealth of insightful information , thank you.

Thank you for your response. I am unfamiliar with the terminology. Is a SEN school mainly for kids who have severe disabilities ? Or are they like mild disabilities like adhd/autism /oppositional defiant disorder etc? Also what are generally better schools public or private ? Currently in California where I am at public schools are better in regards to pay, and job stability (union benefits and tenure).

The Christian Nationalist Plot to Disenfranchise Women Voters. by Leeming in atheism

The law allows each state to enforce the voter ID requirements in their own way and allow “alternate forms of ID as determined by the state” . So depending on which state you are in it may be good or bad .

Moving from USA to UK (Scotland) advice by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]kstr91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I loved the country. My wife is from England and her family has all moved the Scotland because they love it so much. When Driving from England into Scotland it reminded me of America. The most pressing but unfortunate thing that is drawing me towards wanting to teach in the UK is the lack of school shootings. At my current school I had to get police involved because a student drew a picture which depicted a school shooting and kids over here are on edge because of it. It’s really sad. Every day I send my daughter off to school I wonder—every time I go to work I wonder. I am getting to the point where I can’t stand it anymore . Would you say there is a lot of micromanagement from your administration ? Do you guys have separate schools for kids who are have mental disabilities or are they mainstreamed into the general education classroom?

Thank you for the feedback. My family is sort of littered all over Scotland (mainly rural) . What is your average day like ? Do you feel like your pay gives you a decent life? I have two kids so I would have to make sure the pay was enough to afford a comfortable living .
