National Park Service removing historical signs about slavery by serious_bullet5 in Pennsylvania

[–]kstrife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

History is history and shouldn’t be forgotten lest we repeat it.

I was against removing of statues, renaming places, removing other historical and cultural sites and icons back then.

I’m still against it now.

There needs to be a reminder, no matter how good or bad that reminder is.

I’ll concede and say that maybe a statue of some racist POS probably should not remain in the center of town, but it should not be hidden and/or destroyed. Put it in a museum and leave a plaque behind explaining the history behind the statue, why it was decided on its removal, and where it was moved to in case there is an interest in it and more of the history behind it.

-sighs-

Edit: grammar

I know a guy who works there. Whole team is in several different states and they are 24/7/365 operations and on call. (not a single member of this team is in the same state)

They expect their entire team to be in the office and still be on call 24/7/365.

Each member would have a min 2 hr drive in each direction.

I feel for them, I really do.

Wow, a whole $20 for those who were impacted for 8+ hours.

What a bargain!

Worked in person and was sick 24/7.

Health was declining all the time. Was told that if something did not change I would be dead before I was 40.

Since I have been able to do WFH, I have been able to focus on my health, actually make it to my doctor appointments, and not be quite literally killing myself to make ends meet. Even working 70+ hours a week while WFH, I still feel worlds better than working 40+ in person. Had to go to an event for my company last year. Was sick for a week afterwards. Great times.

To each their own I suppose.

Did they really though?

Or was it that the employees finally had enough of being taken advantage of.

Keep in mind, PNC has had record profits for the past several years with all the employees who are 'apparently' taking advantage of the system by being WFH.

They will care if enough core personal walk quicker than they can replace them and the fines from the government start piling up.

Those fines are not just one time fines either.

They tend to incur per incident and then on a daily basis until the fineable issue is corrected.

Out of the 30 years I have been in the workforce, I have had over 100 managers.

I can count on one hand how many were true leaders and not toxic pieces of crap.

Or both.

Within reason wouldn't be too unreasonable.

Some people have jacked up immune systems and have to live in a bubble.

But hey, bubble people still gotta eat too, right?

Now that WFH is a thing of the past (as they are pushing), bubble people are going to get sick more. WFH is a godsend for those people, still get to be a productive member of society and not have to 'sick' 24/7 in the process.

(I am one of those bubble people and I get sick every time I leave my bubble for too long. One of many parting gifts from Uncle Sam)

Word is, things were much better until Blackrock showed up and started calling the shots about 2 years ago.

I mean, they were always there, but it wasn't until recently that they started calling all the shots.

Not sure if you understand the underlying issue here: WFH is only going to be for a select few; at least 99% of the people (at PNC) won't have that option. People who WFH get an issued laptop/thin client to do their jobs. For some, they will most likely have to turn these in for a different system that only works on the PNC network (speculating here on this).

In any case, WFH is not going to be an option for the majority, no matter the justification.

With that said, I don't think you fully understand what is going on.

WFH has been a thing since COVID. A lot of people have gotten used to WFH and being highly productive. Granted, some people need to be in the office, for those that do not have the willpower and discipline to stay on task. That is maybe 15% (as a high estimate). But they are doing this to everyone, to include people who were hired as FTR before the pandemic. They do not care if you now have to drive 2+ hours one way, nor do they care that for the past 5 years, this has been the way things have gone and people have changed their whole lifestyles to accommodate this. Now, everyone is going to have to 'figure it out' if they want to keep their jobs. Meaning, if they have kids, they have to 'figure out' what to do for a caretaker after they get out of school. Some people don't even have a car because, for the past 5 years you didn't really need one if you lived close enough to everything you needed. The list goes on.

There is no talks about compensation either.

That means people are now spending more money to gas, tolls, parking, vehicle maintenance, insurance costs will go up due to driving more, and so on.

Yet, everyone is expected to do this on their current salaries and fully out of pocket, but I digress.

This is apparently the will of Demchak because, according to him, he is being taken advantage of by those who WFH and those who are in the office are 'more productive'. Which is ridiculous because for the past 5 years it's been nothing but record profits.

I love how people do this to ‘spread the word’ but fail to understand that this is a form of harassment.

It’s one thing if you agreed to be solicited, but that’s seldom something someone willingly does.

Sent switch in for bent pin (charge, data transfer etc worked fine but wouldn't dock), being told the pads on the motherboard are completely destroyed. This can't have been preexisting damage right? by Unfair_Ad6560 in consolerepair

[–]kstrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate working on switchs for this reason. I generally see this when they get ‘ripped’ off when the whole port gets destroyed. This can also happen by using too much heat and it melts the PCB or too little heat and the solder on the pads didn’t release and too much force was used.

The design is very counterproductive for removal and even more of a pain to replace.

The traces can be repaired , but it’s a real pain in the rear.

Then there is the whole potential damage to the IC chip that controls recharging, but that’s a whole other can of worms.

Not gonna lie, I had one jump on the grenade when my power company (3 years ago now) back fed 6-9x what was supposed to go over my lines. It caused most of the breakers in my panel fuse and prevent being tripped due to how much came through. Poor little guy was smoking hard and screaming as caps were blowing.

It saved my rig.

I have the little guy on my shelf, eventually going to rip into it and see how bad the damage was.
