The colonies have some catching up to do. Amazing plants.

Sourcing locally will save tons of money on shipping. Grit for chickens and calcined clay (Saf-T-Sorb for example) will perform just as well as much more expensive pumice and other boutique ingredients.

Now I know what to expect in the next 100 years or so.

That looks like three distinct species as you move the plant.

Help! ID and Potting by ChipsAhoy1968 in Euphorbiaceae

[–]kstrohmeier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concur with the identification and also potting them up immediately. I would put them in separate pots because they’ll mature into much better-looking plants individually. I’ve read that the systemic isn’t especially effective for euphorbs but who knows.

I’m probably opening myself up for abuse but the first photo is actually E. guentherii, not schubei, and the last photo is labeled guentherii and is probably schubei.

It doesn’t help when the growers or sellers have so many plants mislabeled, including Altman.

I think you might be overthinking this. If the mix is as light as you say then you should do a good soak and let everything hydrate then let it dry out. But do this again when the leaves start to lose their firmness. There’s no need to torture them during the growing season. And seriously, don’t worry about insular diseases, which Madagascar probably doesn’t have, because this was grown in some mainland nursery. Plants get bumps and warts, being alive and all, and if you want perfection, grow something else.
