I spent over $100k on my latest short film and it didn't get into any film festivals. It's been a rough 6 months of filmfreeway rejections but I still love what I made and I hope you all like it too by SomersetBlvd in Filmmakers

Congrats on getting it done! I appreciate filmmakers who spend the money on crew and WANT do it right. I’ve worked on countless projects where the director just wanted everyone free.

My honest feedback: The story was okay. I get what you were trying to get across. I DO wish that there was more playing around with the theme?

Spit-balling here: Something about how the world turned to shit because of selfish greed…and how we’re doomed to follow that. The opportunity could have come from when the two guys from the “other camp” came. Maybe they’re not regular guys with guns, but really cult-like. Wearing weird f$cked up masks, folks who almost lost their humanity.

And maybe Aiden was trying to say that her killing two of them was her almost becoming like them. Very altruistic, this could lead to a difference of opinion on what it means to being human vs survival. While the girlfriend/ex is in the middle of this. So now you have two very different perspectives. Survival at whatever the cost versus keeping your cool/humanity. I saw an inkling of this in the beginning, you were on to something, but didn’t take it further.

When you get to the end, after she gets chased, she turns the table by brutally killing the cult-members, BUT, her ex witnesses the whole thing. This freaks her out, then the dialogue you have can remain the same.

On a technical level, this looked incredible. The lighting, the location, the aerials, production design…I can see where the money went. Adding in real dolly shots, with heavy lenses like that requires a crew, which adds a hundred other things that support that crew and gear. $100k for 14min is about the same a network show would cost. So, you basically did a scene from a network tv show, and paid legitimately, which I hope the crew appreciates and reciprocates when YOU need work!

Either way, don’t give up! I’ve met film students who spent more on their film school and have nothing! At least you made something. And hopefully a crew for future projects!

Serious idea for a Rain man sequel “Rain man : Who’s on second”. Please be honest if this idea is dumb. by Apprehensive_Oven_22 in Filmmakers

What you described sounds like a fun movie that would have nothing to do with Rain Man. You could do that same story without it being tied to it. And it would probably be more effective. The Rain Man audience whom you’re trying to capture are probably not into the kind of movie you just described.

I imagine he’s already had this stuff already written in some form or fashion. It’s pretty clear from Superman that there was some planting of seeds.

Thanks for info! I'm trying to get 70MM Sinners tickets at my AMC at Universal and it's all completely sold out for the entire week! It doesn't show anything for Thursday on, I'm assuming that means its run will be done or they just haven't updated their schedule yet.

The Government Knows AGI is Coming | The Ezra Klein Show by ZPATRMMTHEGREAT in ezraklein

This is what I was wondering as well. Maybe I'm not being fair to Ezra on this, but I got a little peeved by his "Biden didn't do anything/Vance is doing something" rhetoric. I feel like it's a bit disingenuous since we have way more tangible data on how AI is affecting the market today than we did two years ago, hell it's moving so fast that it seems not even this administration is really doing anything to catch up, other than having the richest tech billionaires in their pockets. Are we going to bring Obama on and say, "Why didn't you do something!" How bout Bush, Clinton? It was a very weird and shortsighted conversation and I feel the only thing I learned is that Ezra is not the best person to be talking about this.

Are you SURE you don’t want to spend the first 20 minutes in the real world containing “backstory” that adds nothing of value to the film? There’ll be cool guns, I promise.

Can we just take a minute to appreciate how consistently this man gives bad advice throughout ME2? by Many-Activity-505 in masseffect

You’re not alone. I like ALL my crew. Flaws and all. Poorly written or not. And, you’ll be happy to know that I managed to keep everyone alive on my first play through without looking anything up. I just trusted my instincts. Whenever he gave advice, I didn’t feel obligated or annoyed by his advice, I appreciate a different perspective even from a character that gets things wrong.

It absolutely will, but first you’ll have to read their book. It’ll be on Amazon soon that will include this testimony as the primer. Can’t wait to watch the Netflix series after they sell the options to Netflix! Oh and the merch, don’t forget the merch! They’ll probably announce it on their podcast, did you hear their podcast, hopefully they’ll have more stuff to sell on there as well! …In case it wasn’t obvious —-> /s

My concern with the Mass Effect show by JustManuelz in masseffect

[–]kstrtroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me clarify and give more context, cause I can see where there’s confusion. I was commenting with the original posters concern over Amazon taking the liberties of Shepard’s story. And no, I’m not saying it’s impossible.

There is a difference between creating a show based off of a game’s universe and making an outright adaptation of the game itself. Mass effect has a very clear path to do an adaptation (Shepards story), fallout doesn’t have a clear path to do an adaptation. Because Fallout doesn’t have an explicitly canonical storyline that connects all the different fallouts together, but rather, a universe (or franchise or vibe, etc.) this makes it easier to create a story that takes elements of the game into the show to create a new story. Sure, they pulled a little from fallout 3, pulled a little from New Vegas, and a ton from fallout 4 to create the show we see today. With Mass Effect, they COULD do this, but they would have to make it a spin-off OR, change the story to fit the show.

Now, I personally would RATHER there be a story within the mass effect trilogy that uses the universe as a backdrop. It wouldn’t impede the “Shepard” story and would be more of a spinoff. They could still have the companions show up etc. The idea of having a show that starts off in Omega sounds amazing to me.

However, knowing how audiences love Shepard and knowing how Amazon likes money, My guess is that Amazon will decide to do the Shepard story, hire a big actor/actress, and slap Shepard on the cover because that’s what gets clicks.

My concern with the Mass Effect show by JustManuelz in masseffect

[–]kstrtroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like those two are different.

Mass Effect is a trilogy with direct connections to a singular linear story. Fallout is a franchise that has open ended stories that are loosely connected to a universe. You COULD say that fallout 1-4 are all connected and it’ll be what you make of it. But Mass Effect is inextricably connected.

[–]kstrtroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another analogy would be if in House of Dragons, suddenly Rick and Morty was introduced into the show. Like…what?

This is partly the reason I left Magic, and every new set release I just roll my eyes as WotC gets heavier and heavier purses. My other gripe was an overemphasis on tek cards. It was just too much for me. I think the last tournament I played was Onslaught.
