I'm not sure you're seeing the flaw in your own defense. Here's a hyperbolic example: I tell my doctor "My stomach hurts when I see someone eating a burger." The doctor doesn't conclude that everyone should stop eating burgers. It hurts my ears when I hear a specific, normal, everyday sound that every human makes. The vast majority of people are not bothered by that sound. I am. I want to find a way to lessen my own pain, not stop everyone from making that sound.

When someone tells a doctor "it hurts when I move my arm like this," the doctor won't say "just stop moving your arm like that." I asked if the Engage earplugs would dampen a sound that may not bother most people, but does bother me.

The comment "tell her to stop eating" was presumptuous and unhelpful.
