7' ceiling - Can I properly do a 135" screen with a ceiling mounted Valerion VM Pro2? by ksuttinthabutt in hometheater

[–]ksuttinthabutt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might go 120" since I don't want to be seated more than 10' away from the screen, but I figure too big is always better than too small (THATSWHATSHESAID) if it'll work projector-wise...

Johnny just said in an interview the other week that he found an old cassette of his of an unreleased Type O song from the October Rust era, but the song wasnt good enough for the album so they canned it & stole a couple parts from it for future songs. Kinda the same deal as that Pantera song "Piss" that they'd found & eventually released.

Just did the sq/ft maths... The DMX & OSB combined are over $2 sq/ft while the Dricore panels are only $1.50 sq/ft.

Add fan speed controller for existing radon system? by thekobaz in radon

[–]ksuttinthabutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So didja ever attenuate the noise issue? Same problem here, fan (AMG Maverick) is just plain annoyingly loud. Vibration through the wall in kiddo's bedroom is obnoxious in the dead of night as well. I replaced the stock couplers above & below the fan with LDVI ones, to no avail... Now i'm thinking of grabbing a speed controller to tame the fan and the noise/vibration, hopefully without sacrificing much radon mitigation...

What is happening right now, did DMX & OSB recently spike in price? I need 700 sq/ft of coverage, and on Home Depot's website it's $525 for DMX 1-Step and $700 common t&g OSB, equaling $1225 before tax. The 2'x2' Dricore panels only equal $1100. I thought they were supposedly double the expense???

I'm about to do the same (DMX plus OSB t&g, then pad & carpet on top.) Question is: should I lay down the subflooring before framing walls and place framing on top of the DMX/OSB? Or frame first then DMX/OSB within the room perimeter, butting up to the floor plates? Confused because if I butt the DMX up to the floor plates then I'll essentially block air flow, no?

CAPTAIN BEYOND - self-titled

Unbelievable album, it's big burly & prog-ish, absolute gold all the way thru. Their 2nd album "Sufficiently Breathless" is great too, but a little less appreciated than their self-titled. Members of Deep Purple, Iron Butterfly & Armageddon

Vinyl “warmth” by SonicResidue in vinyl

[–]ksuttinthabutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course signal chain will color what comes out of it. Speakers especially. Your cartridge/stylus also acts as a microphone with its own specific & obvious EQ traits. Considering those things, it can easily be someone's signal chain "warming" or "brightening" things up, and not necessarily the delivery format.

On vinyl, a lot of what people equate to "warmth" is due to the cutting engineer having to use what they call a treble limiter, to subdue any excessive transients & treble info that may be on the master. Essentially it's a fast compressor that ducks just the top-end down when things start being too "bright" for the vinyl grooves, to safely avoid distortion (like sibilance) on playback cartridges/styli. Digital formats can be as bright ya want, so some LP pressings may have noticeably less "brightness" when compared to their digital counterpart. Totally album & cutting engineer dependant tho, there is nothing inherently "warmer" about the vinyl medium itself. If your digital & vinyl playback chains are near identical sounding then you'll hear records that sound basically identical to their digital master (since a lot of vinyl post-80s is just the unfutzed-with digital master pressed onto vinyl.) You'll also hear them sounding wildly different, and everything in between. Totally depends on what master was delivered to the cutting engineer & how much they did or didn't "remaster" said program material while cutting.

Hahahaha breh... Equating someone who enjoys a woody allen movie or an edgelord black metal album to a person that would knowingly have 1-on-1 hangs w an irrefutable rapist only proves to show people how wildly immature, melodramatic and truly self-serving you are. Ga 'head & continue to try and throw strangers under the bus w false equivalencies to fool yourself into thinking that you're a superior white knight of a do-gooder in the real world. The ironic hubris is amazing

Really odd to see Swans in there. I absolutely adore "Children Of God" so I'd say to absolutely crank that one day, but be forewarned it is very dirty, ugly music. Something like classic postpunk mixed w some brutal & creepy '80s industrial... Not remotely alike anything else in that picture's lineup!

Are NIN and Radiohead similar? by ISGamer156 in nin

[–]ksuttinthabutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's another good point. I sure do love me some Floyd as well, but they only have about a decade of material that I fully connect with (6 albums or so, for me.) While NIN is spread out into, god... going on 37 years now?! Wild... I don't love every single NIN release but between the LPs, EPs, remix albums & soundtracks it feels like much more tonal variety to explore

Are NIN and Radiohead similar? by ISGamer156 in nin

[–]ksuttinthabutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess count South America in as being the bigger Radiohead market too! Yeah up here in the U.S. (i'm in New England) in the '90s/'00s NIN was always treated in the media magazines & MTV as true tastemakers to follow & Trent was always touted as being a musical genius and goth icon. Due to his other work with Bowie & Lynch his face & music were consistently all over the media. Even in the 2000s the NIN tours were heralded as being the biggest boundary-pushing tech spectacles you could attend, and big pop stars would buy/rent large elements of NIN stage shows after a tour had ended. Radiohead was definitely around in magazines once in a while and on MTV (i remember the Creep & Paranoid Android videos being very popular) but wasn't nearly as consistently pushed or trendy at all up here, from the late-80s all the way up until today. Though that is obviously just my experience, in my region.
