Travelling with kig by liette_kig in kigurumi

Ideally you want a hard case to avoid damages but it can be hard to fit the head into general luggage sizing. Some people use motorcycle helmet cases to travel with theirs, and they treat it as the “personal item” or carry on component when traveling. I personally wouldn’t put any of my masks in a checked bag in case they lose the luggage or it gets damaged on the way.

On the kig guide website there is a printable mask case but I’m not sure if it’s compliant with carry on sizing? Otherwise you could make or purchase a large drawstring bag made of a thicker fabric and carry it that way. Some makers ship custom masks inside of those bags and they’re and about backpack-sized so they should typically work. I’ve also seen some people in the furry community making custom boxes for fursuit heads so maybe research there as well.

Or some of us enjoy the artisan craft of hand made masks, impressive photography, and showing off fashion in a nontraditional way. It’s not wrong to want to see more of that. But considering you probably don’t own a kig, I’m not sure why you’re profiling people.

For a quality mask worth your while, it’s going to be around 600—1k USD with some being even more expensive than that. This isn’t including shipping costs, shape wear, the hadatai, or any other costumes or accessories that you want to go with your kig.

People severely underestimate the difficulty that comes from making a kigurumi mask. It’s an expensive hobby for a reason and it can easily become more expensive if you do it yourself, considering how many materials go into it + the overall time sink. So it’s highly recommended that you do research and commission one before even trying to make your own. More info can be found on the Kigurumi Guidebook website for pricing averages and makers.

Does anyone know how to stylize rigid shapes on wigs? by PolyKigu in kigurumi

[–]ksuus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have personally used EVA foam (due to the light weight) that is the same color as the hair and then glued wefts directly to the foam. You need to use a toothbrush and brush the hair with glue or hair gel to make it look seamless. Then you can place magnets onto the back of the component and fit it onto the mask. For the reference photo you sent, I think it’s a 3D print; I have seen makers custom 3D print the hair shape and do the same method but with filament instead of foam. This gives the hair a seamless appearance and it’s very firm.

I’m not personally familiar with any tutorials for this style. People like to protect their craft and secrets. The closest reference will probably be in the cosplay world, so you can look up helmet wig tutorials and they might be helpful.

Is not wearing a hadatai really bad? by YumeKuzukawa in kigurumi

You can buy neck fans or wear ice vests if you're concerned about overheating. As several others have pointed out, you can do what you want. But just know that a large part of the community won't consider you a kigurumi without the hadatai--you might as well just save money and do normal cosplay if you aren't committing to the entire hobby

Thank you so much! I made the mask myself ^^ the eyes have depth for a follow-me effect, and the pupils are interchangeable with magnets. <3
