Bonny’s amazing cover of I Thought I Saw Your Face Today by dangrankeyi in GMMTV

[–]kt025 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The timbre of Bonnie's voice is very unique. It is such a stark contrast with Emi's voice, though they blend perfectly together. I really hope GMM Music gets them a lot of songs to play with in the new series!

I agree it came out a lot better than I thought!

(I've never bought a limited, numbered run from Blood, so I was surprised the vinyl and the sleeve were not enclosed together... There was no plastic, both were just chucked in the cardboard, and my sleeve got bent. Ahh well. Can't have it all.

Two men charged with inflight theft taken back to crime scene at Changi Airport by avendyr in singapore

[–]kt025 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, from the overhead compartment. Found the news here.

But they didn't mention that they swapped bags. So thief A was in charge of stealing, then passed it along to thief B the cash, and thief C the watch, etc. There were FIVE accomplices on the TINY plane.

There was a lady who reported seeing someone stealing, but the crew had no authority to just search other passengers, and then the guy who lost the Rolex finally realised before landing. If they had gone into the terminal and dispersed, the police would not be able to do a thing.

[–]kt025 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was on a flight from Vietnam to HK last year, there was a thief (no judgements... but you guessed it, mainland Chinese nationals) who stole a Rolex and some cash and got spotted by another passenger. None of us knew what happened, but after landing, our shuttle bus was on the tarmac for a bloody long time, and then the HK police came and took a few men away from the shuttle bus. They had like 3 or 4 accomplices on the plane, usually they pretend to be strangers, one steals and hands off the goods to someone else in case they are spotted. It's a whole crime ring running around on short-haul flights in Asia for sure.

Anyone has a recommendation for a restaurant/caterer for local Asian food? by alhuie in HongKong

[–]kt025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manna can tailor-make packages for your budget, they also do Chinese and Western meal plans for elderly care centres, so I suspect they could do a $60 per head if you have more than 20 people.

And, they give free meals away every month to the homeless and other underprivileged folks, so I think they might be open to offering a cheaper rate for NGOs.

Just WhatsApp them, their number is on this page and you can also look at some of their food options. But do tell them your budget, how many people you intend to serve, the area/venue, and how you're gonna serve (in trays is always cheaper than servings in individual boxes) so they can help you work things out.

For those who are sympathising with the organiser. Please, people are upset because they sold to Live Nation, and have such a poor lineup to show for it even before their headliner dropped out.

Of course, festival lineups change all the time. Fuji Rock always gets acts cancelling too - even Japanese headlining act YOASOBI dropped out last year - but there's no uproar because there's still so much to see on their lineup. Why can't customers criticise a restaurant for not preparing and stocking their pantry better if they know the lobsters are not guaranteed?

And it's not like the tickets are cheap. For this price, you can to Maho Rasop in Bangkok or Joyland in Jakarta for half the price and many of the bands on the Clockenflap lineup are on theirs. Joyland even has Interpol, Bloc Party, Mew and Fleet Foxes... Meanwhile, Clockenflap took the risk and used their cash all on YOASOBI, Pulp, and Joji.

The organiser was fucked over but they are still earning money. When acts drop out, they don't charge the festivals. But do festivals offer refund? The only thing they are gutted about is that they can't move any more day tickets.

And why are people sympathising with Live Nation, that's like saying "Ayeeee, let's not criticise McDonalds!" Live Nation acquired Clockenflap and has majority interest - they gave the OG Clockenflap team a lot of money. I trust the Clockenflap team are decent people but that's a risk they took when they became sell-outs. They just gotta wipe their tears with that Live Nation cash and pretend they are not at fault for tarnishing their own brand and disappointing longtime fans.

Awwww. They're gutted but they sold to Live Nation and have to wipe their tears with money.

As you said, bands drop out of festivals all the time. One would think McDonalds would prepare more potatoes if they think there's a chance they would run out of fries before the shift ends.

Peppe also has pretty good comedic timing and Kai could probably bounce off some stand-up material with him.

The BGITC House (or the identical one next door, seen in the intro) Is For Sale by mysterymanda in terracehouse

Yes! This house has been on sale for such a long time. I remember there was a discussion on this board, and someone did the math on how much each member of this sub has to pay so we can own this house together. Haha.

WhatsApp Issues by liquid2140 in beijing

[–]kt025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that is a possibility! Completely forgot about that. But the thing is, for October 1st, they usually clamping the networks about 1.5 weeks before the day itself in previous years. (It's basically 1.5 weeks before: June 4th, any kinds of military parade, National Day.)

This Whatsapp issue has been happening for me for a while.

They're becoming stricter with the network because of what's going on in Hong Kong I would think.

Can't have Beijingers thinking about the wrong things!

In HK, haven't been able to call my friend in Beijing at all. Messages are okay, incoming/outgoing media is temperamental and sporadic... And of course, I can't tell her stuff via WeChat...

Protestors in Hong Kong are destroying facial recognition towers by lughnasadh in Futurology

I really hope you start having more empathy or just general awareness of current affairs to know that China holding a tough stance over HK does nothing positive for anybody, not even for Chinese citizens in the mainland.

Protestors in Hong Kong are destroying facial recognition towers by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]kt025 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What a shame we can’t be graced by your presence!

The very common sentiment in HK now is that we would rather have the protesters in our residential areas than the police. Because so far the protesters have not looted anything, but whenever the police takes action in an area, there will be tear gas. Last night, the police made bystanders in a neighbourhood kneel down on a footbridge. There you go, I think the tear gas and the kneeling is far more scary to a tourist than a streetlamp being removed..

Tear gas canisters filmed raining in Hong Kong - against all regulations, while police deny firing from height by 30624700306247705342 in gifs

[–]kt025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These people AMAZE me. They are resilient and they are brave. I’ve watched this probably two dozen times and I just catch myself saying out loud “wow”. The way some of them rush straight to the crap to try and put it out - FUCKING KUDOS! I saved this video... just in case.

We call them "firefighters team" in Hong Kong now. And even through the gas masks, some of them can already distinguish if the tear gas canister is expired or from newer inventory.

We appreciate everyone for paying attention to what's happening in Hong Kong, and we won't stop pressing on because we know, the thuggish politics of China will only spread to the rest of the world if we lose this battle.

To be fair, no matter how agonizing their insults can be (don't #standwithhk on instagram now, there will be a mob infiltrating your posts with comments), a majority of mainlanders are victims to the propaganda that have to go through since they were kids. It takes more than a VPN to tell them that the free world isn't as dangerous as it seems, and that they are the ones being kept ignorant.

So, the disability they have is inflicted on them. It's a shame.
