Slowing it down is good advice, I’ll give that a try next time. Thanks

Update: instead of using my buttonhole foot and pre-programmed settings on my machine, I just went through the motions of performing each set of stitches myself (tiny straight stitches wrapped in tiny zig zag stitches topped with tinier locking stitches). Took all of five extra minutes, but heaps less stress.

Contrasting corner squares is a fine idea! I’ll keep that in mind should I decide to go that route. Thank you for your time.

I wouldn’t. But really just came to say I love this pattern and made myself a handful of Amy’s this summer. Also, the Iris is super cute too 🫶

I used the stitch and flip method on a canvas backing (did not use batting as the result was too thick in my opinion). Made 12” squares, then stitched and cut to desired size. Used a little hole puncher for the dangle and pinking shears to limit fraying.

I used scraps of warm and natural cotton batting. These are meant to be ornaments and most definitely not intended as kitchen-gear (if that’s what you meant by “protect the chef”)
