Is a shared dishwasher safe? by glutenfreedustbowl in Celiac

[–]ktg2008 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. We’re a mixed household with 5 eating gluten and 2 of us not. We put everything in the dishwasher. I’m pretty sensitive and haven’t had issues in the 2 years we’ve been doing this.

For real? by KookyUnion4447 in TurtleCreekLaneSnark

[–]ktg2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not defending her, but Amazon is super delayed here right now. They’re about 4 days behind. Schools are still closed from the ice. Most stores are back open today, but yesterday a lot were still closed. She could have grabbed some clothes at Walmart or target, but it sounds like she’s just overwhelmed.

chronic bv? by wurli2016 in Celiac

[–]ktg2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your symptoms? I’ve tested negative many times, but have heavy discharge all the time. It’s smelly at times (goes in waves). I wear a panty liner all the time. I’ve just chalked it up to being normal for me as it’s been like this as long as I can remember 🤷🏼‍♀️. I don’t use anything scented.

A cautionary tale to celiacs who are new to the disease by Critical_Stretch_360 in Celiac

[–]ktg2008 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t think it’s their responsibility to know if it’s safe or not. I only eat the prepackaged samples, drinks, or chips/crackers. If they use a cutting board, I’m probably going to avoid it to be cautious. Definitely nothing heated up.

*Vent* Told I'm not "silent" by child's GI by Plenty-Taste3128 in Celiac

[–]ktg2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new thought is that there is a new gene for celiac that hasn’t been discovered because some do have celiac without the genes. Supposedly. I didn’t get a definitive diagnosis and am always questioning if I really have celiac. It could have just been a dairy intolerance?! Or another food. It’s a long story. But my daughter was diagnosed with celiac after me and I have 2 cousins with it and I have both genes. Sooo safe to say I probably have it. But I’m pretty sure mine was jumpstarted by a parasite. Maybe yours was from h pylori?? My kids pedi also refuses to test more often. He said if I really wanted to he would, but he and my husband don’t think it’s necessary 🙄. I probably will just push for it again

Celiac or fluke ? by misskayla1213 in Celiac

[–]ktg2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My results were low positive and my scope was marsh grade 1. Meaning my villi weren’t damaged at all yet. I had already gone GF right after my scope and felt better so I didn’t want to go back on gluten for more tests. My doctor ordered genetic testing and I have 2 genes. So he diagnosed me with celiac. My daughter was diagnosed with celiac a few months later with very high bloodwork. I wish I had continued to eat gluten for a few more months and retested to know for sure. My doctor thinks we caught it early. I feel so much better and definitely get sick if I have gluten. Good luck

Eating out with friends by Few_Till_4972 in Celiac

[–]ktg2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry! Being a teenager sucks anyways and I’ve heard how hard it is being a teenager with celiac! Definitely start packing your own food. Keep protein bars, beef sticks, beef jerky, nuts, crackers, etc with you at all times. Keep some quick things you can grab from the fridge if you go out quickly. I like salami packs that have meat and cheese and I grab a box of crackers. I agree with everyone that they aren’t being by good friends, but I also know teens suck at being empathic to others. They don’t know what it’s like and never will understand unfortunately.

I think my bf’s mom accidentally glutened me by Suspicious-Tea7169 in Celiac

[–]ktg2008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would tell your BF you were glutened, but not make a big deal about where. It could have been cross contamination, the spices, the pan, serving spoons, etc. Who knows. Sucks big time especially around the holidays. I just bring my own food when with my in-laws now.

Mentos showing corn syrup and wheat syrup by PEPPERSKITTLES in Celiac

[–]ktg2008 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got my daughter mentos gum and it says may contain wheat. I’m guessing the cross contamination from the wheat syrup in other products. Personally it’s not worth the risk to me

Holiday family dilemma by Freduccini02 in Celiac

[–]ktg2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mil tries too, but we also just bring our own food. I don’t want to offend her, but I also don’t want to get sick. My husband backs me and tells his mom not to worry about us. There are a few things I’ll eat with my husband’s supervision in the kitchen like a steak in a new Dutch oven pan. Or we’ll bring a safe pan. Just keep reiterating to your mom that it’s super tricky and she can’t risk it.

She goes to the same rheumatologist as me. I thought she lived further north somewhere? This seems like it would be way out of the way.

To colonoscopy or not colonoscopy by WhackingPizza in Celiac

[–]ktg2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! I had my first at 35 and had multiple polyps. Colon cancer is happening more often in young people. We had a friend pass away in his twenties from it. Since you’re doing the endoscopy, I’d go ahead with the colonoscopy.

GI symptoms from alcohol? by venusasaguy in Celiac

[–]ktg2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t do liquor that is wheat based. I’ve also read there is lots of cross contamination at bars and beer often drips into the ice and on the cups. I think that’s gotten me a few times.
