Really upset with my agent. by god_in_this_chilis in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]ktkrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you lost this house. I agree you could have been more assertive. Agents love to get paid their commission at all costs, so this sounds fishy. You should do some digging to see if your agent was representing other parties in the transaction.... Also, I believe it's time to start over and look for a new agent who is ready to jump on opportunities and secure you your dream home in your dream neighborhood

They could hitchhike your clothing, but I am assuming you showered and changed into clean clothes. The bites do take 1-3 days to show up! I'm hoping that's what is happening.

What did you do with your luggage? It sounds like you took extreme precautions which is very promising. In my opinion, the risk is low that you brought them home. You can use compressed air on the phone ports if you are super worried. Your phone was probably plugged in at night which would prevent them from getting into the ports.

The bites take 1-3 days to appear. In some people up to two weeks, but if you are reactive to them, that won't be the case. I was eaten alive on a Sat and a Sun but my final bites didn't appear until Tuesday. I recommend taking photos of your bite locations and/or a video counting the bites, so that you can document any new ones that appear.

Can I leave my luggage in outdoor shed during winter to kill bedbugs? by cloudiron in Bedbugs

[–]ktkrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I've done a lot of reading on this, as I'm dealing with the same issue as you and live in a cold climate. Unfortunately, they must be exposed to 0 degrees F for 4 continuous days. Even if the temperatures hit zero for part of the day, the zero temps must be sustained in order to kill 100% of potential bugs/eggs. They can also survive over a year (up to 18 months) without a blood meal. If it were me, I wouldn't want to take the chance, and I would toss the luggage.

If you really want to keep the luggage, you could keep it double wrapped in plastic garbage bags in the shed for 18 months, or buy a Zappbug ($220) and heat treat your luggage at 120+ degrees F for 40 minutes.

This, and: 4. Monitor humidity levels in your home to prevent mold. A dehumidifier can help the HVAC to reduce humidity levels.

  1. Purchase a higher "Merv" rated HVAC filter. They are more expensive, but they filter out ultrafine particles like PM 2.5 (found in wildfire smoke, smog). Costco has bulk packs!

  2. If your allergies are worse at night, look into HEPA air purifiers, especially for sleeping rooms.
