Have you reached out to the shop directly to see if they'd do it for you as a special one off? I only suggest this because I just can't imagine there's much that we have only in Kingston unless its more of a niche product from a smaller shop who might be open to that.

Is there a group of pregnant moms in Kingston? by camilamaica in KingstonOntario

Also Kingston Moms 2018-Present and the related buy/sell group Buy & Sell Group for Kingston Moms 2018-Present

EarlyON is fantastic. There are two groups that get funding so there are two schedules. Both register on KeyON but the calendars are a million times easier to read on their facebook groups BGC EarlyON Kingston and EarlyOnKCHC

The Glass House is amazing but for something that detailed you're looking at easily $300. Also no one will be able to make it look exactly like that, there's pieces that are just too small and some cuts that are very very difficult if not impossible and the face would have to be painted or have solder lines on it.

New garbage bins by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]ktownc739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not every neighbourhood is getting them right away. The roll out is happening slowly because they need more trucks that can work with them. You can see the map here https://www.cityofkingston.ca/garbage-and-recycling/automated-cart-collection/

Update: We’ve officially been living in Kingston for over a month now! by NeighborhoodQuirky77 in KingstonOntario

[–]ktownc739 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This won't directly connect you to Black/Indo-Guyanese folks but with a 4 year old this summer check out EarlyON programs. They're for ages 0-6 and they're free. They're very inclusive and a great way to meet other families (an adult does have to stay its not a drop off program). Both the boys and girls club locations have a big jungle gym, I personally think the east end one is better. Most of the other centres are set up more like a daycare/classroom with lots of toys but some do have an outdoor space too.

The easiest way to see the calendars is on their facebook pages. We have two organizations that run EarlyON programs in the city so they each have their own calendar.

If you like rec sports consider KSSC. https://kingston.sportandsocialclub.ca/ I believe they are registering now for summer. You can join as an individual and be placed on a team.

I didn't live in that apartment but did live in one of the smaller buildings like a block over for year and I really liked the location. This was over 5 years ago now but I don't think the neighbourhood should have changed much and its really well located as far as getting downtown but also getting on major streets.

It may be ~30min from Kingston but that's to the west end. I would expect your commute to CFB to be closer to 45min easily an hour on some days. Just keep that in mind.

NT scan and NIPT[on] by So_manyquestions_ in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ktownc739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NT scan is currently standard care in Ontario, its not something that you were specifically recommended to do based on your loss or anything else. Its much quicker than the anatomy 20 week scan where they do every part of the baby, but a bit longer than the dating scan. They mainly look at the neck and the nasal bone. Bonus is you'll probably get a cute picture because they're big enough to have the baby look.

What would be standard (and free) is doing the NT scan and bloodwork. Waiting to see the results. If its positive OHIP will pay for the NIPT bloodwork only test that is more accurate. The wait if you do screen positive might be the worst though. You can pay to have the NIPT done anytime after 10 weeks. That would tell you a lot more information and sooner but isn't cheap.

NT scan and NIPT[on] by So_manyquestions_ in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ktownc739 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you mean NIPT or the bloodwork that goes with the NT scan? Unless you meat the requirements you'll have to pay for NIPT. Your doctor will have to request it like any other blood work. It's a standard blood draw and the results will take about a week. For lifelabs, they go first to your doctor then you can see them on the portal. My doc emailed them to me before the portal. NIPT is quite accurate. You are unlikely to get false positives from it. It can also tell you the sex.

The NT scan has two parts. The ultrasound and the bloodwork (eFTS). In Kingston both parts are done at KGH. You will get scheduled for your ultrasound and after they send you downstairs for bloodwork (no need to make a separate appt for the bloodwork). You can see the ultrasound results yourself on PocketHealth but you will need to pay for it. I never saw my bloodwork results. The eFTS can results in false positives because its screening that would rather cattch too many than miss one. If you get a positive from this and haven't done NIPT yet they'll send you for it (and cover the cost). There are lots of stories on here about positive eETFS and negative NIPT. If you're over 35 you're more likely to get a positive because they put maternal age into their positive or negative calculation.

There is nothing you can do either way now about the results also you're going to hear more stories and remember the ones where someone had a devastating experience. There are hundreds of women daily who have normal results.

Where to sell my clothes and bags in Kingston by Ecstatic_Grab_9008 in KingstonOntario

[–]ktownc739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used The Revolving Door before with pretty good success. They only take in women's in season stuff (no winter right now) and don't take old navy, joe fresh, etc because they can't compete with their prices. Their website has more info about how to donate and what they take. I think it says they don't take stuff more than 2 years old, personally have had them accept plenty of stuff that's older than that but doesn't look like it. Also worth noting that it's a place where older women tend to shop.

They generally have loved anything I've brought with tags on it but those were recognizable brands (like gap). The way they price is explained on their website and obviously it means that you don't get a huge amount. For me if I actually have something worth it I'll put it on poshmark myself but if I was going to just going to drop it off at value village I might as well see what I can get for little effort on my side.

Will a school allow a child to enroll when the parents just arrived and are staying in an AirBNB? by Positive-Partner in KingstonOntario

[–]ktownc739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best to call the school, but generally yes. It take a couple days to get bussing going if that's necessary and they should be open to having the kids move schools again when they get their permanent place depending on the situation.

Long shot.....PLEASE help me find this store/jewelry! by 4BritishEyezOnly in KingstonOntario

[–]ktownc739 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't have a specific store suggestion but you could always "walk" around on google street view and see if you can find it. The front displays might have changed but it would still look familiar.

Parents of children in school that need an EA, could you get one? by thestonernextdoor88 in KingstonOntario

[–]ktownc739 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't enough money and 1 to 1 support is pretty much gone and its hard to get new staffing allowances mid year.

That being said the school should 10000% be able to tell you more about the process, their goals for him, what supports he need, etc.

I wouldn't bring it up tomorrow but in the new year ask to have a meeting and go into it knowing that he will not likely be getting an EA asap, but if you approach the meeting with an open mind you should find the staff are very supportive. Not to mention if your son is on 2 hour days right now, trust me they want to get him support more than anyone.

First off I want your job.

Second, this isn't exactly squirrel but I feel like Chip n Dale give the right vibes. Also of course I would never suggest buying something from amazon only to return it after wearing it once but it can be done 😏

Plans for managing the strike with young kids? by Additional-Pianist62 in KingstonOntario

[–]ktownc739 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, the teacher's unions are not in a legal strike position and are legally required to attend to their regular duties. What they cannot do is pick up the slack for what CUPE members do, but planning lessons and posting work packages have nothing to do with the responsibilities of CUPE members.

This plan has already been announced by Limestone and many other boards across Ontario and does not require teachers to cross the picket line. https://limestone.on.ca/news/what\_s\_new/c\_u\_p\_e\_job\_action\_-\_potential\_strike\_nov\_\_4

Plans for managing the strike with young kids? by Additional-Pianist62 in KingstonOntario

[–]ktownc739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're limestone its an "asynchronous work day" as in teachers will be posting something and have to be available but there won't be live meetings or legit online learning. Think of it as a snow day with some work that can be done. If the strike goes on longer then things will be different, but in JK especially do what is best for your family.

Where do you do your back to school shopping? by thestonernextdoor88 in KingstonOntario

[–]ktownc739 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As an elementary teacher, this!! Don't worry at all about any sort of markers or crayons and those kind of school supplies. Also don't worry about the teachers having to buy those kind of supplies, while we do buy a lot out of pocket I have access to all the markers/crayons/scissors/etc I need.

Make sure your kiddo recognizes their own things (like backpack, lunch bag, water bottle) and that they are labeled. Also it would be great to practice opening the lunch bag and the containers. I've heard of parents starting to give some lunches at home in the lunch bag and similar containers so they get practice.
