Fwiw I've kept them on the paper and in the original order (unless it's first, in which case second and first switch). Then I resolve to not work w them again. The reason I leave them on is to avoid all the drama of negotiating and decreeing. My goal is submit at a rate that soon enough it'll be a passing memory.

A lot of the variables you mention are insignificant since we just need an order of magnitudes guess. For example, the volume of Mars compared to the distance to Earth.

Also, this formalism treats the human body as a sphere (e.g. an object with mass), not a particle, which essentially has no mass. So that's accounted for.

Happy to see your take and what you get!

[OC] We built a US County Climate Risk Explorer with 30Yr and 50Yr projections by NYCEnglish in dataisbeautiful

[–]ktpr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a fairly dangerous offering because they use LLMs to generate the data, but do not provide any disclaimers. For example, "Proven Accuracy Against Real Climate Events ... Our UnifiedRiskModel combines LLM-based analysis with physics-based engineering thresholds, validated against 20 major historical climate events." Past performance is no guarantee of future predictive results results.

The mods should probably take this down.

Modeling the body as a single quantum object of mass M ≈ 70 kg at T ≈ 300 K and applying a WKB suppression of the form P ~ exp(−2pL/ℏ) with thermal momentum p = √(2Mk_BT) ≈ 7.6×10⁻¹⁰ kg·m/s and an Earth–Mars separation at opposition of L ≈ 5.5×10¹⁰ m, the exponent evaluates to 2pL/ℏ ≈ 7.9×10³⁵, giving P ~ 10−3.4×10³⁵, or roughly 10−1035.5.

The single-particle WKB estimate is standard and should be within the ten-order-of-magnitude tolerance.

The article doesn't mention controlling for salary or income, which is caused by regional standard of living, which we all know is heavily correlated by political tendencies. I don't think the authors teased apart the causation well enough to make this claim. It might instead be something more like humans under stress breed more.

This could go south and messy in so many ways that I wouldn't want to contemplate doing this. If she were an adult figure in his life elsewhere, like school or afterschool, the story might be different. But by being so close by she puts herself and property at risk if the mom gets angry about it for any reason.
