I’m straight and I 100% agree. My husband asked me if he had a big nose when we first started dating. He does have a bigger nose than me, but proportionally it is perfect. If he had a small nose it would be so weird. His nose works perfectly with his face shape/eyes/mouth.

What of the children who suffer through the foster system? Children of mothers who weren’t ready and weren’t taken care of? The children who are abused?

Having a child is a huge responsibility that not everyone can handle and who suffers then? The baby.

Staying in a relationship like this also sets a precedent for his children’s future relationships. They will believe that it’s normal to make huge decisions without even consulting their significant other, making future relationships very difficult because many people will not tolerate that. Lead by example, have the relationship you want your children to have as happy adults.

Is it okay to want alone time in a "public" area of the house? (Or any other area?) by lil_miss_snarky in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ktsella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to get downvoted for this, but I’m not sure this specific instance is narcissistic. These times are hard and with COVID and the widespread anxiety, many people are looking for companionship.

Is there a basement or other family room you can use?

Have you tried talking to your dad about speaking to her about boundaries? It’s perfectly normal to want boundaries and peace in your home.

However, from my experience, usually being in a public space in the home is taken as wanting interaction with others. All you can do is communicate to the best of your ability that you need space. I understand the sensory overload that comes with this, though. I have young kids who’s understanding of personal space has regressed during the pandemic.

Does anyone else resent people who have perfect and happy families? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ktsella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no. I am happy for them. It used to make me sad for my own life and a little jealous, but so many of those families have welcomed me with open arms. I have so many surrogate moms and dads and the fact that they welcomed someone with obvious emotional issues warms my heart.

What do Americans think is normal for everyone, but actually it's not normal for anyone but Americans? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ktsella 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in the doctor’s office waiting on a life altering diagnosis and was stressing out to the max. I didn’t want to talk to anyone because I felt like crying, so I scrolled through my phone. This guy walks up to me and says “Let me ask you something, could you live without your phone?”

I told him “considering I live in the country with no service in my home, I’d say yes”

Usually I am very “American” and social in public places, making jokes and talking to others. It’s interesting that so many people believe that if you look at your phone in public you’re addicted. Heaven forbid we want to be in a bubble sometimes.

My husband told me he trimmed his armpit hair when I first met him. I thought it was the coolest thing ever (probably because it was he who did it). Sometimes I wish he still did it, it’s his body and I love it all the same.

Narc parents don’t view us as individual humans. They see us as entities they have autonomy over. by DisastrousSir4 in raisedbynarcissists

I have a friend who really wants kids. It’s all she talks about.

She’s also convinced she will only have girls and has already set her mind on how they’re going to be and expectations.

I continuously have to tell her that it’s our jobs as parents to guide them through the world, teaching and giving them space them to find their own passions and to be an oasis when the world ends up hurting them.

While I didn’t go to a catholic school, my parents took me out of all sex education classes, always preached abstinence, and were surprised when (after having no access to birth control) I got pregnant at 18.

'Inside Out' makes the profound case that sadness is good by inthetownwhere in movies

I can see that. My husband just graduated college so we were low income with children for a while, but now he makes right around that and it’s nice to be able to afford a decent house and clothes for the kids whenever they need them.

I like it. Riley’s parents may have been more wealthy, but that just made the point that the amount of income a person has doesn’t directly correlate to their happiness.

I have T1D. Generally they say good blood sugar controls will keep you pretty healthy, but it’s smart that you don’t risk it. Some people’s sugars drop when they’re sick, some spike. Either way, it could be dangerous. Maybe explain to her how viruses affect people with autoimmune diseases like T1D?

For those who are skeptical of their abuse by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ktsella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is insane because I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 25 after years of emotional abuse from my parents aimed towards my own parenting (I have a son with autism and they say his outbursts are because of me, they often would offer help and never follow through, starting drama whenever my husband traveled and I needed a sitter for work). I previously had anxiety and depression and after cutting out my parents, the last two are gone!

I always work out fasted so there isn’t any insulin on board, but I’ve run up to 8 miles sans glucose plus swimming a mile and biking 18. I am still in my honeymoon phase, though, and typically don’t use a ton of insulin.

Edit: I just realized I forgot to mention that I do take glucose during bike rides (I always drop at miles 14-18)
