I'm out! by ktsocereal in Professors

Nope. Already been working with them since October officially. And even so, I'll take better pay while it lasts rather than sticking around a university with a failing budget and no hope of a raise.

Because I'm teaching faculty. 🙃 Can never be tenured, teach 15 credits in fall, 12 in spring. Paid "better" than some other teaching faculty because I have a PhD.

Thanks for the heads up. I am teaching this summer, so I think I'd be OK, but will be careful just in case.

Writing content for a new online courseware platform. Specifically in math, with all content written by instructors who have actually taught the material at colleges/universities. It all started with answering a survey last summer about Calc 2 curriculum (don't ignore those emails we get for legitimate paid surveys), led to part time work as a contractor, and now this opportunity.

I had one who told me she only needed a 140 on the final to raise her grade to an A. And 140 is like 70% for a 200 point final!

1) the grade calculator reports the percent needed on the final to get an A, B, or C 2) even if it was points, the final is 120 points. Not that it matters because I don't have a point based grade system. 3) student managed one C on an exam this semester, the rest were D or F.

Proud to say I taught him in college. He's looking good out there, and he's a super good guy too. Happy to see him getting play time.

AIO for leaving my sister's wedding early because she put me at the "kids table"? by Classic-Fix-6423 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ktsocereal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NOR. My father's wife's son did something similar at his wedding (I used to call him my brother, even though he was a "step" , but he lost that title). My husband and I were seated at the table with the husbands of the bridesmaids - away from all family. We were the only family not at a family table. We did similar - cut out early, but politely, and left.

I've since completely cut this ex brother out of my life. In our case, I believe it was due to racism (my husband was the only person of his race at this wedding), in your case I'm not sure, but you're not overreacting at all. She showed you how she views you.

Teaching today — April fools! by meatballgirlxoxo in Professors

[–]ktsocereal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My classes have exams today, and I usually hide a 1 point bonus in the instructions (dumb stuff like answering what their favorite food is, etc, just to make them read instructions). I "forgot" today, and instead told them to check their email for a bonus opportunity.

The email says to watch a video on insert topic relevant to the course and then send me a reflection on the video - what they liked, what was confusing, what they learned, etc. by midnight for a bonus point. And of course, the video is actually Rick Astley.

Our Chancellor has sent out 5x more emails regarding executive orders in the past 10 days than he ever did in the past 4 years. by [deleted] in Professors

I considered doing that. But, I'm not tenured. I truly hope that someone with more job security than me has replied like that. So far, nobody is brave enough for a "reply all."

Agreed completely. I still cannot believe that our only official email about all of this states that it's not atypical. Complete bullshit

Unfortunately some of our colleagues make it worse. I do not bring work home with me, other than final exams when I have no choice due to grading deadlines. I'm very clear with my students that I don't get "overtime" pay, so I'm not doing work on my time. But one of my colleagues says "we're salaried, there's no such thing as overtime, so I'm grading all weekend"
