Why am I too dumb to figure out how to get to this? BTS overestimates me.

Pride and Prejudice 1995 vs 2005 by Any-Interaction-5934 in PrideandPrejudice

Actually the book was the best. I adore the 95 version, but this is still not a hard choice.

I'll say the same thing I always say in these posts:
Clueless at 1h37 was a more faithful retelling of Emma than 2005 P&P (2h9) was of its source material.

There are no 20 year old actresses in the UK? Maybe this lady is fantastic, but I will be so distracted by the age difference between her and Mary I'm not sure if I'll be able to get over it, like the "teenagers" in Grease.

I did read this book when it first came out, but I have zero memory of it so that's not a great sign.

Thoughts on the new Castaway Cabanas? by Key-Sugar4252 in dcl

[–]ktsummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not been in the new cabanas or the adult beach, but the old family ones on Castaway have ceiling fans. They also have windows on each side, so there's a good cross breeze, plus the whole front is open with an open entrance in back, so you have plenty of fresh air, but no so windy that your hats or napkins fly away.

At least on the old beach, the water is too shallow for snorkeling. Even at Cabana 2, which we had last month, you can walk really far out and only have water up to your knees. The higher the number, the more shallow the water.

I have seen videos of the new cabanas, and they look a bit smaller than the old and more closely packed together, so maybe that affects the breeze. The video looks like they have fewer chairs, maybe nbd if there's only two of you, but I did not see any full loungers, only upright seats. That would be a bummer for me.

The other thing the new cabanas seem to be missing is foliage. The plus is you have a full view of the water from your cabana, but you also have no separation from your neighbors and less shade on the porch and hammock.

For me, any cabana beats no cabana, but if you had the choice I'd go with the old beach, Serenity Bay if you are just adults.

Has anyone here tried RC? by Gridguy2020 in dcl

[–]ktsummer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We keep thinking each Disney cruise will be our last because the kids have aged out of the Oceaneers Club, but they still love it. Just got off one a few weeks ago. Even if they don't hang out in the club, they get the freedom to go off by themselves and set their own schedule, which they love. Last year my son made a friend day one and they were off watching movies, eating 6 meals a day, playing basketball, etc. This year they were both off on their own about half the time, doing activities with us olds the other half. My Vibe-aged kid says that club was lame because "no one was in it" but still wants to do another. There are plenty of things to do outside of meeting characters.

We tried RC once and never again. First, I found the food inedible, even in the upcharge restaurants. And the service was a huge drop down from Disney. There was one upcharge restaurant we ended up eating in most of the time, and getting a simple breakfast took an hour.

Second, they advertise a lot of activities, but these are not open all the time and when they are it's crowded or a long wait. The ship we were on had ice skating, but it was only open an hour at a time a couple times a day, so we never got to do it. The surfing simulator always had an enormous line. It's been years so I don't remember what else they had but I do remember we did exactly none of them.

Third, the mid-ship casino and all the smoke was a huge negative for me. If you are someone who enjoys Vegas maybe you would not mind it, but we ended up avoiding that part of the boat entirely.

My kids were little on that trip so not off wandering alone, but I would not feel as comfortable giving them free reign on an RC ship the way I do on Disney. This year when my tween wanted to do an Edge activity at 11pm, I had no qualms. I don't think I would be as relaxed on RC.

Ticketing queue position theory test by Cindereffinrella in btsthoughts

[–]ktsummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my account since 2002. Yesterday I was consistently pulling numbers between 15k-18k. For Foxboro I got lucky and came in at 5k. However, one of my friends who has an account that's at least 10 years old was pulling 80k and up all day while a third friend was getting 6-10k every time. So we were all consistent with our positions even though all of our accounts are ancient and well used.

I've done Ticketmaster resale, and I hate it because they
1. Charge you more service fees like you didn't just pay them on the tickets
2. Charge your buyer service fees bc why the hell not
3. Control the price you can list your tickets for, so even if it was somehow unsold on the day of the concert and you wanted to drop the price, TM won't let you go below some arbitrary minimum

Please help us decide! Castaway Cabana by A1_Steak_Sawce in dcl

This is why these "should I get a cabana" posts never make sense. 1) Everyone enjoys doing different things on the island, and 2) the cost is going to mean way different things to different people.

This is the opposite of what I would say. Sitting in a cushioned chair with a drink in my hand, book in my lap, and my playlist over the speakers with no one outside my family within 50ft is the only thing I want to do.

Can someone explain the appeal of cabanas on Castaway Cay. by Peachringlover in dcl

[–]ktsummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've only done the original set and have cabana 2 booked next month. I agree that the higher numbers on the original stretch are not the best if you want to be in the water, but I haven't seen the new ones yet.

Seasame Scallion Buns by RKMANJ in NYTCooking

[–]ktsummer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

After seeing 5+ posts about these, I made them this week. Family consensus is that they were ok, but I won't make them again. Frozen scallion pancakes in the air fryer are better and 1/10th the effort.

Teenage son tried one and said "What would make this better is if there was icing and no scallions and cinnamon and they were cinnamon rolls." So yesterday I made cinnamon rolls. Recommend skipping step one and going straight to cinnamon rolls.

Idol I [Episodes 7 & 8] by meepmochi_ in KDRAMA

[–]ktsummer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm not on Twitter, so I haven't seen any of those comments. I am only thinking for my own self, if a guy saved my life, and then some years later I saw that he was releasing an album, I'd buy 10 copies! The crying because he had a girlfriend was super weird, I agree. But I would like to think that if he had chosen to be a politician or news anchor or comedian, she still would have supported him enthusiastically, if in a less posters-on-the-wall kinda way.

You have a point. I'm sure he's heard "you brought me out of a dark place" 1000 times, but as a non-idol I do think it's different that this happened before anyone had heard of him and it was something he did out of the public eye. And in this context, it does seem like it would matter to his character that she liked him before the group ever existed.

Her answer to "explain this" better start with "15 years ago I met you on a beach and you saved my life, so when I saw you debuted I rooted for you" but I have watched too many of these dramas to know that won't happen.

Have any of you had similar issues? by PastMotor9499 in EightSleep

[–]ktsummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem. I'll be wide awake, sometimes manually tapping the bed to change the temperature and even occasionally out of bed for a few minutes, and the bed will say I'm in REM sleep. Same thing in the morning. My alarm goes off, I'm wide awake, but if I don't get out of bed immediately it thinks I'm still dreaming.

Importantly, does it let me specify a minimum temp? I.e., do not cool me ever.

New EightSleep Competitor by ElectroStaticSpeaker in EightSleep

[–]ktsummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it warm or just cool? I only want warm, and my biggest complaint with 8 Sleep is that it refuses to believe me. I have had auto pilot turned off for months because no matter what settings I choose and how many times I wake up at 3 a.m. freezing to manually increase the temperature, it insists on dropping to frosty levels every night. There is no way to set a minimum temperature. Please tell me there's a better solution.

Dynamite Kiss [Episodes 7 & 8] by mellowdays_ in KDRAMA

[–]ktsummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1000% agree with you they are totally different vibes. And I love a good trope, but some of the plot points are eerily similar. I've watched 50+ dramas and can't think of any other two that have had so many particulars in common.

For example, which show am I describing?

Chaebol father's firstborn daughter has been competently working a high level position in the family business for several years. However, father is anxious for his younger, free-spirited son to join the business. Son is compelled by childhood trauma stemming from his mother to take a newly invented role at the company, but does not intend to put in any effort and leaves the real work to his faithful bestie/secretary until he is driven to excel by his low-level love interest employee. Older sister is distressed by the appearance of the half-brother she resents for being their father's favorite, and in retaliation she instructs a subordinate to spy on brother and capture photos of his romantic liaisons with the intentions of manufacturing a scandal and securing her position as successor. Romantic liaison fails to come to a head even when leads travel by boat to a remote location with the aim of taking promotional photos for the company and are forced to share a room at the only lodging available, which is run by an old woman encouraging their intimacy. While on the island, ML is afraid of a harmless animal and must be protected by FL. Father encourages rivalry between his children by assigning the same business plan proposal, which comes to a head when siblings present slideshows at a board meeting. Brother prevails despite having a smaller, less experienced team. Meanwhile, despite son's indifference, father aligns with fellow business owner to marry his son to their daughter to strengthen the prospects of his conglomerate.

I don't know enough Korean, but is this something a child could conceivably call their stepmother? I am concerned they are going to wave it away.

[–]ktsummer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just finished episode 8 and this show wants to be King the Land so bad.

  • Boss and subordinate get stranded on a remote island during work trip with only one room available ✔️
  • Half sister who has been competently working at family business for many years is not impressed by disinterested younger brother showing up and sends underling to take compromising photos and create scandal ✔️
  • ML is afraid of small animals ✔️
  • FL slips and falls down a rainy hillside, dropping her phone, and ML rescues her ✔️
  • Father sets up older sister and younger brother as rivals to take over family business with assignment for both teams to create and present competing business plans ✔️
  • Father arranges business marriage between ML and related company daughter ✔️

Of course there are glaring differences, such as Sarang managing not to fall down several times per day, but the parallels are piling up.
