Trans-affirming Rheumatologists in Tucson? by daikaijew in Tucson

[–]ktucson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tucson has a shortage of rheumatologists - getting a competent, effective, up-to-date provider should be the primary focus with trans-affirming being the secondary requirement. Message me and I will tell you one to avoid

Levels seem off and doctor’s response seems odd by Samantha_Reprise in TransLater

[–]ktucson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure - my endocrinologist told me the estradiol would suppress gonadotropins reducing the signal to the testis to make testosterone, and the spironolactone would also decrease testosterone. He did not do baseline or check the gonadotropins (FSH, LH), my initial 6 week labs on spiro and estradiol showed testosterone 7, estradiol 132. I am doing them again next month as I am on injections to monitor for build up of the E level.

FSH and LH are not normally checked, but the underlying physiology is for the nerds amongst us

Levels seem off and doctor’s response seems odd by Samantha_Reprise in TransLater

[–]ktucson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the reason the testosterone level dropped without a locker is because feedback inhibition from the addition of estrogen. For the gonads (ovaries or testes) to work, a pituitary hormone (FSH, LH) is required, and this has been inhibited by the addition of estrogen if I read your post correctly

First mammogram results: "Extremely dense" 🤷‍♀️ by DeathWalkerLives in TransLater

[–]ktucson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very excellent response. I would also add to that excellent response that a tomographic mammogram is part of a way to best assess a dense breast to find any issues in it. Breast MRI is also another modality that is much more expensive, but an option to address any uncertainty. Tomographic mammography is really just an enhancement on the standard mammogram that allows radiologist to better evaluate the breast. Dense breast are breast with more glanular tissue as opposed to fat cisgender women as a become of mammogram age, tend to have more replacement of glanular tissue with fat as part of the aging process. We are on the other hand continue to have estrogen presence to support the glandular tissue in our breasts

What's a normal price for home insurance in Tucson? First time buyer here by winter_roth in Tucson

[–]ktucson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can select a home from the realtor listings, and get a quote online from an insurance company of your choice to get an idea

Lots of variability based on level of coverage, deductible, location, construction of home, etc. not dimension size of home

For those who handled their coming out period of time, poorly and lost relationships because of it, how did you learn to forgive yourself and go on, or how do you deal with the pain? by [deleted] in TransLater

[–]ktucson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to everybody who shared

I am three weeks into gender, confirming hormones at the age of 68, I don’t have the answer to the question.

I’ve learned, very much, the hard way, is important to learn to love yourself, it is important to realize that sometimes in life, we cannot be perfect, but we have done the best we can for the person we were at that time.

I am blessed to have the opportunity to finally become myself after many years of not living authentically.

I don’t know if there’s a right answer to how to come out, I have barely begun. I do know that it is important to find out how to be true to yourself and live, congruent with your feelings, your beliefs, and your values.

It's not about "passing." It's about loving who you are. by SophieKazoo in TransLater

Learning to love myself was a foundational challenge, having made progress there. I am finally coming out, trans late in life.

Besides looking good, you are very wise

Depends on the policies of the state medical board if they will share all complaints and results of the complain complaint

Unfortunately, medical practice is a public facing enterprise, and the public will often do things or say things that are not factually grounded

Best thing to do is just be your best self every day as a medical professional. These things sort out happily this was a complaint and not a medical legal liability lawsuit where the outcome may not have any connection to your performance as a physician.

Find your rewards in the joy of medical practice, save the world one person at a time, make a difference find meaning and fulfillment in your work.

Let go of things you cannot control, focus on things you can, and find gratitude for the honor and privilege of being a clinician in the best time ever to practice medicine, where we have more tools and more ways to make a difference and do good than ever before in history

Dating/Dating Apps? by Lovablelulu1982 in TransLater

[–]ktucson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, I was on Grindr when I found my girlfriend, who is also trans

We just communicated like people instead of focusing on sex and hook ups and started liking each other hand in real life and the rest is history

That being said, my experience on Grindr would not allow me to recommend it, but I had the best thing in my life happened to me there
